Since this is Amtrak's primary road diesel, it is pretty good. My only complaints are the Horn, which sounds NOTHING like a K5LA, and the brakes take FOREVER to release. I also like the PhaseIII Stock. It loosk good for a livery used in the 80's. I give it a 8/17

It would be worth the $20 if all 4 heritage paint schemes were included, along with the normal Phase III and IV paint schemes. Also, it would be very cool if the Superliners also had Phase IV paint. No, not Phase IVb (which looks terrible in my opinion). And also, the baggage car that's included does not AT ALL seem like an authentic baggage car. It looks too new to look real. This pack also lacks the Material Handling Cars (which are included with Run 8 Train Simulator's P42 Pack). Perhaps the most dissapointing aspect of this pack is the sound quality. When there are P42 packs for MSTS that have much more accurate sounds, it makes me feel like an idiot for purchasing this pack. The prime mover sounds nothing like the real thing. Not even the Superliner sounds are accurate, and those are the easiest to record! The horn sound is a big dissapointment because it sounds wimpy! The K5LAs from early P40's and P42's sound incredible. Why wouldn't you use those sounds instead?

I love the look of this train, but for some odd reason, the emergency brake activates at weird times and won't turn off unless you stop, and even then, you have to wait a minute or so before you can start moving again

The models are good for what they are, and these are ESSENTIAL if you're going to model current day Amtrak, but I don't care for the sounds. It doesn't have the deep throated chug that's usually associated, and the horn and bell are better suited to the F40PH. It's an old cast K5LA, which was usually associated with the F40PH. I would recommend it, but find a way to replace the sounds on it.

The P42DC is an essential locomotive for railroading in the United States. DTG's rendition of this iconic engine and superliner cars is certainly adequate, but lacks anything to make it truly special. Let's look at the rundown. Pros: -The P42DC locomotive is seen on many North American routes. A complete list of routes out (at the time of writing this) that would see a P42DC with Superliner coaches in service are: *Marias Pass, Steven's Pass, Chicago-Aurora, and the Pacific Surfliner routes. With a little imagination, you could run it on Donner Pass and Soldier's Summit, as the train does still run on those routes today, however the routes themselves are set in the past. **NOTE: The P42DC by itself, with single level coaches found in Miami-West Palm Beach, New York-Philadelphia, and New York-New Haven, can be run on each of these routes, (although seeing them on the later two is only during electrical failure), as well as Horseshoe Curve with a little imagination. -All Superliner cars are included. -Inside of the cab is well detailed -Passenger views for all coaches, although they aren't very high quality. -The brake lights on the side of the cars work Cons: -A horn mod is pretty much required for this engine. The horn's not that good, and the engine sounds aren't that great, either. -When viewing it at certain angles, the Amtrak logo on the side pixellates. I won't forget the first time I rode one of these. I feel as if this DLC doesn't really capture the beauty of the P42DC for some reason, but its certainly a fine bit of DLC, that any North American fanatic should own.

This is a really good locomotive by DTG! I got in April on my b-day with Canadian Mountain Passes. As for sounds I hear they are not quite realistic but I likve the bell and horn. When the horn sounds the ditch lights flash and one feature I love is the headlight is really bright! The headlight is visible from long distances, trust me! In the cab there's alot of detail, opening windows, adjustable lights and windshields. Included is two liveries, the Phase v livery and Phase IV livery with Amtrak #145. Also is a variety of different superline coaches with old baggage cars. The DLC also has scenarios for Marias Pass. Totally recommend this DLC.

Great Amtrak passenger hauler for TS and recommended for any USA route expect for the NEC. PROS: +Great for any USA route as said above! +Nice cab detail! +Nice bright headlights! +It has a horn sequencer which will turn on the bell, ditch lights, and sound the horn long, long ,short, long for crossings. +All the phase III and V coaches are included. +1 heritage unit which is the 145. +Good physics! CONS: -The sounds are not that accurate compared to the real P42s, I don't mind this since I purchased a soundpack from TheAudioShack for $10 more. -The alerter can be very silent at times. -No HEP (High End Power) switchover. -The wipers are placed in the wrong spot. Overall, great locomotive and I would rate this 9.5 out of 10.

The Amtrak P42DC is not that great but I recommend it. There is a few flaws but that doesn't bother me that much. Cons: The engine sound is incorrect The horn is nowhere near real life sounds Pros: Great for any USA route Nice in cab detail Bright Headlights 1 Heritage unit Phase 4 and Phase 3 coachs (If I'm correct) I recommend it but i suggest getting it while on sale.

Got this DLC a few months ago to add some dimension to the Marias Pass route. If I understand Amtrack's timetables correctly, this would also be a good add on for the new Stevens Pass route. I normally don't drive passenger trains. I'm more a fan of the big diesel freight haulers. As I said though, I wanted more depth for a particular route, so I downloaded this train and played around with it for a bit. I've mainly driven this thing in the daytime, so I can't say how well the headlights work at night. If what I've seen so far is any indication, there shouldn't be any problems there. There are flashing ditchlights, a bell, and a horn, all the usual stuff. One thing I liked was the Sequencer. It's a switch on the floor that turns on the ditchlights, the bell, and operates the horn in a specific sequence. When it works, it's a nice feature... when it works... The Phase 5 livery can be numbered any way you want. The Phase 3 is stuck at one number basically. No big deal, but if you want to give it your own unique number, stick with Phase 5. The rolling stock also comes in Phase 3/5 variants, and adds a nice bit of historical iconography to the DLC. There is one scenario where you start off at Glacier Park station (in Marias Pass route), and have to deal with static goats on the track. Was a bit unexpected. If you're looking to add a bit more depth to your Marias Pass or Stevens Pass routes, I recommend getting this DLC. If nothing else, you can add this train to your scenarios, giving you more of a logistical challenge. The only ding I can give to this pack is to the Sequencer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't know if this is due to a bug in the included script, or a problem with TS itself. It's really no a big deal, as you can manually sequence the horn yourself. Although a bit annoying, it doesn't detract from the experience for me, so I would still give it a five star rating, if Steam allowed such a thing.
