Absolutely brilliant route. It is a great length and the scenery is brilliant. You really do feel like you are crossing Cumbria. The route is set in the modern area (Well when the route was made which was back 2014) so it has the EPS speed boards for the tilting trains. Driving a Pendolino across this route is just such fun. The changes in speed and gradient make the route really interesting to drive. It is also really nice to have the bonus of the line from Carlisle to Dumfries as well as the branch to Morecambe/Heysham is you fancy something a bit different do fast highspeed.

A really nice line - shows the outstanding beauty of north west England. The scenarios included are mostly well made, although the timings on the power station career scenario are rather hard to make - but if you ignore that, there's lots of fun to be had shunting the cargo and running along the rather rough permanent way of the Morecambe and Heysham lines.
The class 87 is very good - driving this is much different to the diesels and requires you to think ahead a lot more due to the amount of time it takes for the tap changer to run up or run down. It's a little let down by the sounds - the Armstrong Powerhouse sound pack for the 87 really improve the loco but you're going to have to spend another £5 at AP to get them.

OUTSTANDING!!!
The scenery is georgeous with wonderful details, lighting is convincing, and a terrific sense of heights and valleys and habitations, realistically placed buildings, water, boats, a sense of far distances, all supported by the ambient sounds of home. And quick drive has multiple AI trains and frequent road traffic - which makes a huge difference and bring a sense of a living environment.
The weathered 47s and the stock are worth the price on their own at the current sale from of $20. Get it. You won't be disappointed.
This is my favorite fast line. Period. If you only buy one UK line, buy this one.
PS: The beauty comes at a cost to performance - but it's worth it. 10/10

Is this the best route available?
This route is absolutely fantastic. It isn't just a linear route, it also includes many branch lines. The three locomotives included are fantastic. The brakes behave in a realistic manner, and take longer to come on the longer your train is. The route comes with the Classic European Asset Pack which gives you even more locos (HST, Deltic, 7F, Black 5, more liveries for the Class 47, Class 37, and some German locos, as well as Mk1 coaches in BR Blue and Southern Rail Green, a variety of freight wagons, and much more!)
Overall, 11/10

I have played this route for about 30 minutes, and I am floored by the quality and dedication of the devs that I have already seen! The route's scenery is FANTASTIC, with amazing attention to detail. The line includes many custom assets, and the usage of fully functioning Neutral Sections! The loco itself is amazing, with a splendidly crafted simulation of the Class 87 "Tap Changer" controls. This loco is a challenge to drive, as such, but by NO means does this make it a bad engine! The sounds on the other hand are not that great, but can be easily overlooked. The only problem with this route is due to the tremendous amount of detail, it will run a little slow on low-end PC's. All in all, this is a GREAT route and is a MUST for all simmers alike!

I would certainly recommend this Add-on. I mainly enjoy making my own scenarios but have been pleasantly surprised at the variety of scenarios featured together with the numerous lines/marshalling yards that are included. Top notch.....
Overview
The West Coast Mainline Over Shap route for Train Simulator, despite being fairly old now, is one of the best routes I own in the game. My advice is simple - buy this route. The question is though, why should you buy this route?
The Route
The route is 90 miles in length, from Preston to Carlisle, as well as the section between Carlisle and Stranraer, around another 30 miles. In addition to this, the Morecambe and Heysham Power station branch is included. But it doesn't stop there as the section between Oxenholme and Windemere is also featured (although doesn't have any scenery). Having said this, the scenery everywhere on the route is stunning. Whether you are driving through the Lune Gorge and over Shap, or shunting rolling stock around Kingmoor yard, the scenery is highly detailed and spot on, especialy considering this route is a fair few years old now and doesn't feature any custom models.. Despite the fact that the route does feature the old electrification system, the author - Keith Ross, who is highly renowned for the stunning WCML North and Western Lines of Scotland routes - has done an incredible job. Out of all routes I own in the simulator (which by now is quite a few), I find WCML Over Shap one of the most engaging to drive on with any rolling stock. In addition to this, fully simulated neutral sections are placed along the route, adding a nice challenge to driving the supplied traction, the Class 87. That brings me nicely on to my next point.
The Rolling Stock
The Class 87, in all honesty, is challenging to drive, mostly down to the fact that it is driven using a "Tap Changer". As a result it will take a lot of getting used to. It is an enjoyable locomotive to drive with a fair few in cab features. Personally, I think the default souds aren't too bad, however I still highly recommend getting the AP Class 86/87 sound pack. The route also includes a reworked Class 47 which is a joy to drive on the non-electrified sections of the route and is a significant improvement over the default Class 47 supplied with the European Loco and Asset Pack (also included with this route).
Scenarios
Obviously, to drive the traction on this route, you will need scenarios to play. The WCML Over Shap route comes with a large variety of scenarios, utilising both the Class 47 and the Class 87. These scenarios also cover the whole route including the various branch lines and the route between Carlisle and Stranraer. I have found no bugs with the scenarios and they are all a joy to drive. The quick-drive system is also very well put together. The QD scenarios give you the opportunity to explore the whole route and include many typical freight manoeuvres, so you are not just confined to passenger runs. There is also plenty of AI to engage you. When you eventually complete all of the scenarios, there is a treasure trove of scenarios available on the Steam Workshop for you to play.
So, time for a recap
Very good Add on, includes Morecambe branch line and power station... all connections at Carlisle, including marshalling yards etc. Also Dumfries branch line, and both the mod yards are available in Free roam. Also Windermere branch line.
Plenty of scenario's available as well. Purchasing the class 86 & 87 add on's makes this package and WCML a lot more playable. Again if you own WCML it connect at Carlisle, and gives you over 3hrs of driving time in QD, if you run from Preston to Carlisle, and then WCML and run Carlisle to Glasgow.
Crakcking fun with Electric add on trains, Enjoy..............
