I think I can recommend this route. I would say that the biggest upside of this route is it's detail. It is something like 115 miles from the Harbor to Carlisle and it is all very well detailed. I would say the only downside is the lack of engines you get with this. You only get the Black 5, which is a re-work of the one you get with the game. In a route that costs $40 usd normally I wish that we could have gotten a couple of other engines, like the 3f Jinty or the 9f.

Very good I am not a steam train driver and prefer to stick to diesels but this route is good for both, being set in the early 1960's. There's plenty of mileage, too - at least 100 - and it includes the Kirkcudbright branch. Don't be put off by the lack of scenarios in the package as there are dozens - many very good - in workshop.

I've had this add-on for quite a few years now. At a price of £24.99 it was worth every penny. 75 route-miles from Carlisle to Stranraer are depicted realistically and the environs of Stranraer, Dumfries and Carlisle are magnificent. The running possibilities are endless. Before closure in 1965 the "Port Road", as it was popularly known, from Gretna Junction to Stranraer was a steam route. No diesel ever traversed this route. A quintessential line feature of steam days were telegraph poles along the whole route. BUT now, Dovetail Games have seen fit to REMOVE ALL THE POLES, replacing each one with a MILK BOTTLE, would you believe? I thought at first that this was an "April Fool" joke, but apparently not. I wonder if the route author knows about this, or did he give up all his rights in selling his design? Now that the route has had various assets (including the poles) removed from it, I wouldn't recommend spending your 25 quid on it.

Wow! Get this route! This is the best route I own. The scenery never gets old and is constantly changing throughout this 100+ miles route. The Black 5 included is also very realistic. My only niggle is that the sounds on the Black 5 are kind of off, but this can be easily fixed by purchasing the sound pack from SteamSoundsSupreme. Also, since this is so long, and has many little branches, there are almost limitless scenario opportunities so the workshop section is definitely worth a look for this route - and it's not often I'll say that about a route. This route suits all steam locos and diesels from the 1950-60s era, and is a great challenge when you're running a little steam loco such as the J50 on the steep hills provided by this route. Verdict: 10/10 - Get it! NOW!

In my opinion, next to Weardale & Teesdales and Riviera in the 1950s, this is one of the best steam era routes that we have for Train Sim. It's a very long route, with goods yards at most stations, two branchlines, and the massive shunting yard at Carlisle. Starting from Dumfries and heading towards Stanraer can be an interesting challenge, with the steep grade that you encounter coming out of Dumfries. This route is perfect for steam, early diesels, and DMUs. I see a lot of people speaking highly of the Black 5 that came with this route, but I'm indifferent (mainly as I have the Bossman Games Black 5). I will say though, a nice touch is that when you load up the quick drives, if you have any of Caledonian Work's addons, they will randomly spawn in as static and AI trains. To be fair, it's a bit strange seeing a Great Western 28XX in Scotland, but it does change things up nicely and keeps me on my toes, wondering what I'll encounter next.

I've just bought this route and am in the middle of exploring it. A lot of track to cover so I don't think the boredom factor will ever figure. Superb scenery and fantastic attention to detail, and a lot of excellent rolling stock supplied. Thoroughly recommended.

Best steam route I have. All i'm going to say is Keith deserves my money. That's why WCML North and WCML Over Shap are also better, but WloS is the best out of them. 17/17

Stunning recreation! If you treat yourself to one route this year, I'd advise making it this one. Great for Diesels as well as Steam 10/10!

I think this is one of the best routes on offer for Train Simulator 2016. First of all, the length, 106 miles from Carlisle to Stranraer Harbour. You can do it all in one very long session, or in several more broken up sessions. The reason why I say one very long session, is the fact line speed from Dumfries all the way to Stranraer is 60mph maximum. Between Dumfries and Gretna Junction, this is up to 75mph, and the 10 miles between Carlisle and Gretna Junction is up to a maximum of 90mph. Another bonus is the fact it includes the branches to Longtown and Kirkcudbright, which is an added bonus if you consider the running potential. The line speed for these are slightly less than the main route, but still nice. Obviously, the main thing people are interested in, are there facilities at at least most stations there? And the answer is yes, very much so. Most stations have a yard or at least one siding, and most of the major start and finish points such as Dumfries have turntables and sheds. This means there is plenty of scope for shunting, as well as other operations such as light engine movements and refuelling. This route is mainly steam based, but diesels can be run. There are some diesel re-fuelling points, I believe there is one at Dumfries. That then brings me on to the locos. Unfortunately, this is where the route sort of falls down, coming with only a Black 5. However, this model of Black 5 is the better one, it comes in three variants and most importantly, it can be equipped with snow ploughs, and they do function, so despite the overall lack of locomotives, the loco is very much up to scratch and worth having in your collection. There are locos that use this route that are separate DLC, but they'll be covered by another review. Overall, this route is excellent, and pretty much a must have for anybody looking for a route to buy. Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10.

I bought this in the sale as I wanted another steam route but I wasn't expecting it to be so good. This route is highly detailed, long and has lots of stations and yards to drive around. Main and branch line running are both in there so if doesn't matter what or how you like to drive - this route provide a lot of entertainment. All the stations seem to have such personality, some with goods yards, some with sheds etc. and the countryside in between is delightful. The amount of industry is great too. I've found that the locos which have scenarios for this DLC are also worth getting and are of high quality. Whilst the main focus tends to be steam with route, diesels like the Class 20 really fit too. I've played this route far more than any other. Very highly recommended.
