Train Simulator: Boston & Maine GE 44 Loco Add-On DLC

The demise of steam traction in North America during the 1940s saw the birth of the hard-working GE 44 Tonner switcher, now available for Train Simulator in the livery of Boston & Maine, one of the most dominant railroads of the northern New England region.

Great little loco for switching and short locals

It's a GE 44 Ton Switcher. It works well enough. It's just like all the other versions, except the scenarios that this one comes with are for a route that's not been on sale since 2015. The loco works fine, it's basically the same as the other versions on Steam. It's got most of the "modern" (as of 2013) functions: interior lighting (it's even mapped to L like it should be!), projected headlamps, working rain spatter on the windows with working wipers to match, opening windows and doors, etc. I recall the headlamp switches in the cab not working correctly though, you have to use the game UI or Hotkeys. This version is less desirable to use for the Sacramento Northern reskin on Railworks America. Make things easy and get the Southern Pacific version if you're looking specifically for that. This version is however required for the B&O version of the 44 Tonner, which sucks. Unless you bought the Portland Terminal route before it was de-listed in 2015, the four (Standard, not Career) scenarios as provided are utterly useless. The required route was re-released by its creators for free on Railworks America as Maine Maritime, however everything in the scenarios statically links to Portland Terminal. You can fix this by copying the assets into the right place (or setting up a Symbolic Link), but some of the scenarios must be modified to swap out the SD40 not included in the Freeware version. I'm not aware of anybody making scenario files pre-converted to work with Maine Maritime available, so you'll be missing out on that content if you don't make the modifications yourself. The scenarios themselves are fine, though the different topography of the route means you're generally doing last mile deliveries to end clients rather than just shunting around a yard. It's still trundling around at 30-40mph breaking up or building larger trains and picking up or delivering to end clients, each around 30 minutes long.

It's old, but it's well modeled and fun to drive. Goes great with rolling stock from the New Haven Springfield Line. Only downside is the horn and bell sound effects, but everything else is fantastic.
