I have problems with addiction and this game is not helping with that, but at least it keeps me away from worse stuff.

A Masterpiece of Strategic Decision-Making
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
FTL: Faster Than Light is absolutely brilliant. This indie gem perfectly captures the tension and excitement of commanding a starship on a desperate journey across hostile space. Every playthrough feels fresh thanks to the procedurally generated encounters and the countless ways your adventure can unfold.
The gameplay strikes an incredible balance between strategy and urgency. Managing your ship's systems while making split-second decisions during combat creates an addictive loop that kept me coming back for "just one more run" countless times. The pause-and-play combat system gives you time to think tactically without removing the pressure of battle.
What really makes FTL special is how it tells stories through gameplay. Each crew member becomes precious, every system upgrade feels meaningful, and the random events create memorable moments that stick with you long after the game ends. I've had epic battles where my ship was falling apart, fires spreading through the corridors, while my last surviving crew member desperately tried to keep the oxygen running.
The pixel art style is clean and functional, perfectly complementing the excellent soundtrack that builds tension during fights and provides haunting melodies during exploration. The learning curve can be steep initially, but mastering the game's systems feels incredibly rewarding.
Even years after release, FTL remains one of the best examples of how to make permadeath meaningful rather than frustrating. Every loss teaches you something new, and victory feels genuinely earned. This is essential gaming for anyone who enjoys strategy, roguelikes, or just wants to experience one of the most perfectly designed games ever made.
Highly recommended for both casual sessions and marathon gaming nights!

Average game of FTL
>Target enemy's shield
Can't, enemy drone shoots down all my projectiles
>Target enemy drone control
Can't, shield is still up
>Forcefully break through shield and get to the drone control
Can't do anything, enemy has shot down my weapons, started 2 fires, disabled my shield and invaded my ship leaving me with no time to repair or man my stations
>FTL jump out of there after losing 25% health
Immediately get jumped by yet another combat encounter
And repeat
Either it's this, or I get locked in a stalemate with me and my enemy's dromes continuously shooting down all of each other's projectiles until I deal enough chip damage for them to FTL jump, or jump myself (because of course the moment they try to jump all of my shots just miraculously miss their engines)
Not to mention the difficulty curve is all over the place, it randomly goes up and down as much as it would like, and in the finale it becomes an insurmountable cliff that you can't get past unless you're a master tactician (which I am not) or if you're hilariously overpowered. (Or have a massive stockpile of missles)

Love FTL! It’s difficult but it doesn’t feel too disappointing when you lose a run. It’s fun to continue new random runs and see how it ends up.

I know (At least as of writing this) that it says I only have 5 hours on this game, but across all platforms I have played FTL on, I have a lot more. FTL was one of the first games I ever played and it holds a close place in my heart. I can remember late nights of staying up with my dad playing this game trying to beat the flagship. I remember crying when my crew members died. I remember wanting to uninstall the game when I lost. I remember the feeling of beating the final boss for the first time after many attempts of laboring away and learning the game. This game taught me remorse. This game taught me discipline. This game taught me what a video game was.
Anyway pretty fun game.

If you like purely RNG based gameplay, you'll love this. It's a lot like shooting dice or playing craps or any of a million other games of pure chance.
If not? Avoid.

At first I thought this was some silly 2d space strategy game, but oh boy I was not prepared for how addicted I would become!
Even without expansive mods such as Multiverse (which feels like a dozen FTLs in one) this is a difficult but very fun roguelike that'll have you managing your systems and scrap like crazy just to go that extra bit further, and it is very enjoyable to run again and again to optimize your strategy and even to try beating the game through unconventional means (like burning ships to death)
It's worth noting you may get absolutely wrecked starting out, hell even I didn't beat the flagship on my first run, but that's okay! Learn from your mistakes, figure out more about systems and weapons, and kick some rebel butt!
Oh and once you're done with the base game, consider downloading Multiverse, it has hundreds of hours worth of content that I still haven't fully completed and it's very fun!
The best game i'll play in my life.
I spent over 2000 hours on FTL, have every achievement on Hard and taken every ship over 7k point victory. I never played any mods, not even multiverse, because the base game was enough.
Most of my hours were racked up when i quit drinking 10 years ago. FTL got me through that. Today, I just finished my last run with the Kestrel. This was the last time I'll play FTL. I have given enough of my life to it and I am so thankful to have had this. Time well spent.
P.S.
One of my many idiosyncrasies: I always put KazaaakplethKilik on doors and make him be "Elite Doorman Kazaak" + attempt (O2) related deaths when i had him. If you are reading this, please put him on doors sometimes and let the legend live on. I can just imagine him pulling little levers and enjoying it. :)
