I know there are lots of fans out there, but this RNG is just not for me. I understand when I lose because of poor resource management or bad tactical decision, but not because being _unlucky_, at least not this often. You can't make a universal ship because there's just too few resources, and there is always a situation when someone just wipes you out because.. f-you that's why. You lost invaluable skilled crew in random events and have like 2 people left? Here, have 4 mantis boarding your ship. You have a single drone as a source of damage? How about an enemy with anti-drones? Yup. And guess what? You get something for playing and losing? Nah. It's not _that_ kind of roguelike. Unless some achievement criteria are met for unlocking new ship (like surviving with 1 hull point left), you get _nothing_. That "score"? You can't cash it in. In game design, there's a blurred line between "challenging" and "annoying" difficulty. This is the second case. I got to this game from Void War, and somehow they got it right. You can get into a wrong situation by chance (which is much more rare), but at least you get some "resonance" to purchase new ships or commanders.

Dunno how this game is positive, it's literally a rando sim but skewed to screw you more often than not. I played like 3 runs, first 2 went horribly, I literally got a negative outcome in every room I entered, only managed to get into sector 2 or 3. My final run was actually sweet, got a an additional crew member quick, got into good fights and moved onto a new sector looking good. As soon as I make the jump 4 pirates suddenly jump on (which honestly literally makes 0 sense).. I tried cutting off air supply but they went through my rooms so quickly I could only do about 2% dmg to their health bars before they ultimately gang banged my useless crew. Idk, I don't see the appeal to this game. There really isn't anything I could change in my play through's since everything is random. I didn't take greedy fights, I didn't die to unnecessary risk, the game just rando spawned death and that was it for my run.

A simple game, that takes forethought, well thought out, I've enjoyed quite a lot.

Both of the subset games titles I've played (FTL and Into the Breach) immediately jumped to my favorite games of all time. They're in a very unique category of games in which losing can be just as fun as winning, and each time I play is exactly as fun as the last, if not more since I understand the mechanics better and find new options to play with. As an added bonus, the pauseable/turn-based nature of the games makes them perfect for playing during down time at work, during quick breaks, etc. Can't recommend this enough.

Genre defining classic. If you've played Slay the Spire, let me tell you that this game plays differently, but it has the same magic.

One of the original indie games that I adored. I am _really_ terrible at it, but the one more run gameplay is undeniably fun.

I know (At least as of writing this) that it says I only have 5 hours on this game, but across all platforms I have played FTL on, I have a lot more. FTL was one of the first games I ever played and it holds a close place in my heart. I can remember late nights of staying up with my dad playing this game trying to beat the flagship. I remember crying when my crew members died. I remember wanting to uninstall the game when I lost. I remember the feeling of beating the final boss for the first time after many attempts of laboring away and learning the game. This game taught me remorse. This game taught me discipline. This game taught me what a video game was. Anyway pretty fun game.

Love FTL! It’s difficult but it doesn’t feel too disappointing when you lose a run. It’s fun to continue new random runs and see how it ends up.

I have, through almost all of my life, been disappointed with game developers. Those that simply chose to let their games go, that filled it with monetization, that made DLCs tie into the base game sloppily, or locking features behind DLC after updates (lookin at you, paradox...) All of this, because one of my first ever gaming experiences growing up, was FTL: Faster Than Light. A genuine masterclass in how to care for a game. A roguelite, 2D semi turn-based strategy game, with a variety of ship layouts, weapons and a plethora of events to look through, with a free DLC content patch that's free to enable or disable on the start screen. In 2025, I really don't know what to say to sell you on FTL other than, I have been disappointed, continously, by the AAA gaming scene, because of how it fails to measure up in comparison to FTL. I cannot recommend it enough to absolutely everybody, especially given it's only 10 dollars now, for the sheer scale of content and replayability you have.

I have problems with addiction and this game is not helping with that, but at least it keeps me away from worse stuff.
