A rather nice add-on which runs nicely and for those who want to travel Donner Pass a bit quicker than by freight. Only downsides against it is the throttle is sluggish to move so you'll need to plan ahead a little bit if traveling up or downhill and the scenarios mostly keep you between Truckee and Reno which leaves alot of poential out but it can be overcome if you build you're own scenarios or come across some in the workshop.

first the F40PH is my favourite engine
second it just looks super accurate
now here comes the bad part
the headlights look really bad in TS2015 and they dont emit the forward view that headlights normally do
other than that it is totally worth 19.99
what would also be nice, is if they added Amtrak phase iii express freight boxcars

The Amtrak F40PH is certainly a must have for any Amtrak fan and any F40PH fan. I certainly had a great time driving it. However, the coaches have a lot of friction causing the loco to be unable to exceed 65mph and unable to reach 103mph on a heavy train and slow down too quickly, even on a normal downhill gradient, the throttle is very slow at responding requiring 1-3 seconds to move the throttle when using the keyboard and the loco doesn't have a HEP feature to make it supply HEP at full power like the real F40PH should. So with that said, I am going to have to take 4 marks off for that. Other than that, I would still recommend this famous screamer. A reasonable score of 6/10 from myself.

It's a very great locomotive and i like it alot, it sounds good and handles great, a funny thing about it you can get a Soldier Summit achievement "40 in the F40" because the same exact loco is in the route.

its brakes grab suddenly above 30% ... worse if e-brake is in use, which is essential on Soldier Summit Provo east to Helper.
The brakes claim to be self-lapping. I wish i had bought a loco from Reppo for Amtrak and not this Dovetail Games loco.
As soon as you back off those brakes slightly: rough-handl

Love it! But, just like everything else this game has to provide, it is WAY overpriced! When I bought this DLC, I spent 40 bucks! And I'm not even able to use it untill I get Donner Pass which is another 40 which adds up to about 60-80 bucks in the end! That's like purchasing 3-4 brand new games! I really enjoy it including the cab forward, but are they really worth that much money? If you think so, get Donner Pass first. It comes with several engines and scenarios so that you can actually enjoy it. I made the mistake of getting this before, and I wasn't able to even use it yet. Only get these if you are actually going to use them. Otherwise, save your money and get somthing worth spending it on.

Pros:
- Passenger train for Donner Pass with 4 enjoyable scenarios
- Using the Reno-Truckee section which is not covered by Donner's own scenarios (only free roam / quick drive)
- Nice in-cab engine sounds (real or not), including:
-- Lovely transition between the notches
-- Much less noticeable flanger effect while double-heading, if any at all (compared to the GP9, SD40)
- Passenger view in all cars
Neutral:
- Soldier Summit has the same loco with 2 scenarios coming with the route (driving this on Donner Pass gives a Soldier Summit achievement)
- The headlights are not intuitive; HUD position #2 emits a light forward, not visible outside the cab
Cons:
- The coaches slow down rapidly without applying power
- Rapid acceleration already in notch 1 (as a light engine), probably to counter the previous point
- Rapid dynamic braking already in notch 1, downhill scenarios require holding it at 2-4%
- Notch 0 (idle) and 1 have the same sound, but different RPM
- 3rd scenarios is too tight, requires track speed +0.4 on average, cannot use notches, must hold the throttle all the time, otherwise it fails
- Career doesn't count towards Coast to Coast, not sure about Standard
- Passenger view sounds are not too good in some cars and missing (silence) in the rest
Overall: worth getting if you like Donner Pass and want some diversity.
