Went in to this with no expectations other than being able to kill some nazis. I got to kill lots of em. Graphics hold up okay, nothing special. Gunplay is extremely fluid and keeps you going at the enemy. Pretty linear gameplay, but ultimately a nice change of pace in 2025 where everything feels like an unfinished indie game. This one feels polished, AAA, and a decent story for once. Definitely interested in the rest in the series.

The game features a very dynamic gameplay set in a dystopian world ruled by Nazis. Combat feels very fast and the battles are often quite hard, possibly forcing you to die and respawn a few times before you get through a level on normal difficulty. Shouldn't be surprising, since you're literally one man against a whole army of Nazis (with superior technology on top of that). I would say the visuals are pretty solid, without causing any significant performance issues. Of course, there's a lot of blood and gore displayed on the screen. The soundtrack fits the game greatly. And the story, it is just as dynamic as the gameplay. You play as an American soldier/spy known as B.J Blazkowicz, who falls in coma during one of his battles with Nazi soldiers. Many years later he wakes up and realizes the world is now ruled by a cruel Nazi regime and thus, he decides to fight again, the same way he did before his accident. All in all, I think it's a solid game that I would recommend.

The theme is interesting, but at best, it's a mediocre shooter. I couldn't play long enough to see the story unfold due to how shallow the mechanics felt as far as I progressed in 3.5 hours, which is the worst flaw a shooter game can have. I'll give the next entries in the series a chance, but this was a bad start.
Not to be confused with the Hearts of Iron IV mod.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is the first game in MachineGame's Wolfenstein reboot series, and it's really fucking good.
Gameplay
The best way to describe this game is Call of Duty if it was a bit less reliant on cover (I will likely be flamed for saying that sentence). As William B.J. Blazkowicz, you use a variety of guns, most of which being able to be dual wielded, with your arsenal resetting between almost every level, to defeat enemies. Similar to DOOM you have both health and armour, but your health regenerates in blocks of twenty, enticing you to not just blindly rush into the field. As you kill enemies in specific ways you gain perks, which make you better in some ways. Across levels you can also find many collectibles, including weapon upgrades (usually alternate fire modes), health/armour upgrades, gold artefacts and letters. The game encourages replayability, with a thing I'll mention in the story section.
Story
The Allies have lost World War II, and the Nazis have won due to some crazy technology, resulting in them enacting complete world domination. You get involved in a resistance over a decade after the war to defeat their regime. Towards the start of the game you make a choice, affecting both the narrative as well as some gameplay mechanics and upgrades. It's not massively different and the core story plays out practically the same no matter the outcome, but it's a cool mechanic, and implores you to play the game multiple times.
Graphics
Being a 2014 game that's not Crysis it's not particularly a looker, but the devs had a keen eye for art direction, as despite the technological shortcomings it does a solid job at immersing you into the world. It's not the most immersive game ever made, but the devs did well with the tech of the time. Runs pretty great too, save for screenshotting via Steam, which causes the game to freeze as well and temporarily get rid of some screen effects, such as when the game cuts to black.
Verdict
Overall, I hereby declare Wolfenstein: The New Order as
REALLY FUCKING GOOD
While the game is pretty cheap by itself, the game goes much cheaper during a sale, but honestly you can't go wrong buying it at full price

With a current billionaire just thinks it's OK to throw up some Nazi salutes sometimes you feel like B.J. Blazkowicz is needed now more than ever.

Good characters, with an over the top plot, and easily hateable, but interesting villains. I appreciate fictional nazis for being easy to hate, it makes you want total nazi destruction. type TND for total nazi destruction!!!!

Kinda crazy to think that "killing Nazis is a good thing, actually" is a hot take these days, but here we are. Reminder that killing a Nazi isn't murder. It's just taking out the trash. Side note that the graphics haven't aged super great, but the experience is overall enjoyable.
