Amazing game. Reminds me of many things... Classmates, fears, Selfmade games... I'd love to play a sequel or something like this.

Evil Tonight does a lot right as a survival horror game and should not be overlooked if you have any appreciation for classic style horror games. It understands old school Resident Evil level design very well and pairs that understanding beautifully with the SNES visual style.
My favourite thing about this game is the difficulty options - the casual mode, although never what I lean towards, greatly lowers the barrier to entry for people unaccustomed to the often harsh world of survival horror games, while the balanced mode offers a genuine challenge on the first run, and the hardcore mode is a legitimate challenge that may leave genre veterans regretting their choice to start there.
Once you beat the game on any difficulty, you'll unlock Commando Mode, which reshapes the experience into an absolute war zone and ends up forcing you to play in a completely different manor - truly refreshing as a bonus mode and unexpectedly my favourite aspect of the game as a whole - I highly recommend it if you have played through on balanced or hardcore already (it might be a little much for those who only beat the game on casual though).
It is a much more lighthearted and playful approach to survival horror than most, and doesn't take itself too seriously despite dealing with some fairly heavy subject matter. This approach paired with the casual mode, much like Crow Country, makes this game a pretty nice potential entry point into survival horror for new players.
My only real issue with the game in the end is the lack of map. Although I did know about this going in so I was prepared to get out the pen and paper and make my own as I played which has a certain charm of its own. Given how polished all the UI elements of the game are I can't help but think how much an equally well designed map system would have been a boon to the game as a whole.
