The first one was much better. This one has you grinding and chasing mages. But its not a bad title. Just not as engaging as the first one was.

Overall a good game. While I do thing Salt and Sanctuary is better, Salt and Sacrifice still brings a lot to the table. I like the new weapons and combat feel of the move sets. Most of the mages and bosses are fun to fight. World and overall story is interesting. Good soundtrack.
My main complaint is due to getting most of your equipment from mages, all other creatures have non interesting drops. While exploring is still fun and technically rewarding with armor sets and weapons like Sanctuary, when would you ever use that armor over a Mage set armor. Puts a bit of a damper on finding items in the world.
Overall I still look forward to their next game.

Its a lot different than the first game some ways better some ways worse. The world while looking way prettier isn't as fleshed out and interconnected as the first game. The bosses are a lot easier as well but combat still feels fun and satisfying with a lot of build variety. The inclusion of the weapon arts system from the dark souls games is also very nice and makes fights more interesting. I've never played any of the monster hunter games so I have no frame of reference for how the mechanics work in that game but the new mage hunt are pretty fun and rewarding however having to chase them all over the place can feel a bit tedious. Overall its not a perfect game there are some issues with it but I still had a lot of fun playing it and I'm gonna start a new play through after writing this lol. The new area they just added is also pretty good and I'm hoping we get a DLC soon no clue if it'll happen though. So far I've loved all the games ska studios have made and I'll always root for them.

an underrated but loveable gem of souls-like and metroidvania crossbreed. Spiritual successor of Salt and Sanctuary. At some moments game is much better than it's predcussor, at some - worse. But it's worthy experience. I really like this game as it tingle my classic-soulslike formula. There some small portion of Monster Hunter vibe as local big bossess must be tracked first (and i really like it) and confronted several times before showdown. Boss variety bit lessened - mages at first cool and horrific became bit mundane and bland after 3-5 victories. Some monsters feel bit out of place, but as usual lore-friendly books and descritpions are here. There less unique loot, guns are absent but there some familiar and lovable tingling that i really liked both in "Big" Souls-like games and this Indie-gem. Highly recommend it.

good addition to the series, not sure why theres so many bad reviews to this game saying its not like the first one and calling it so much worse when only 15% of people that played the first one on steam made it to the house of splendor.
salt and sacrifice is more of a dark souls clone than salt and sanctuary. you get a consistent hub, you get more classes you can level, several areas you can teleport to and from, weapons/armour you can craft off boss drops and new area traversing tools that werent in the first game.

Great game. Even if it's different than Salt and Sanctuary, the original game, it's way better than the reviews point to.

As of writing this, I have beaten the game once.
Things to note before considering this game:
Firstly, as many, many others have pointed out, this game attempts to (and stumbles at) mixing the Salt & Sanctuary style with monster hunter style gameplay. This causes a weird situation where the limited content of the game becomes increasingly obvious the more you play it (Something the previous game hid well, with its alchemy system to transmute weapons and such.) The problem stems from all your craftables being in one menu, rather than being on a per item basis, which lets you see just how few equipment options (craftables) there are. Combined with the tendency that I assume most have to use one set of equipment until you find something sutibly better, you end up using maybe 5% of anything you find, which makes wanting to hunt more mages a... Questionable... Endeavor.
Secondly: Due to the Monster Hunter "locale" style of maps, the world starts feeling small, and sometimes labyrinth like... And not in the fun way. Most traversal tools see VERY limited usage in previous locales, whereas the later locales do a good job at asking you to use all of your traversal tools. It left me feeling betrayed coming back to the first locale because all I could say after doing the short multi traversal section was "that's it? That's all I get for coming back here?" This, tragically, makes it to where you're strongly encouraged NOT to backtrack outside of some limited things.
With that wordy preface out of the way, let's get into the meat of things:
Does the combat feel good? 3-7/10 depending on the boss/enemy
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Some of the most fun I've had with the combat was against like 3 of the mob enemies, who do a good job at encouraging you to use a good mix of perfect blocking, dodging, and attacking. But other than those, it can feel very "kill them before they can kill you" at times. Especially when just about everything threatens to send you flying (and plummeting) to your death. The bosses, well... Overall decent, but tends to be very much a game of "run away until all the death puddles/orbs/pokies/etc. go away, then maybe consider attacking, if the boss isn't already lunging at you with its probably 3 swing attack sequence, then get a couple pokes in, and repeat. Some bosses can be especially infuriating, while others made me think that it was too easy. All in all, the combat can be a bit inconsistent because of the selection of enemies there are, and the fact that sometimes the game forgets that it's not dragon ball, and no, you cannot actually move and react at mach 2 through 52 different projectiles.
Level design: 6/10
Pretty solid, just limit the number of times you're returning to a previous area as much as possible once you have the next area's traversal tool. Finding stuff can be tedious, due to the lack of a map mechanic. You aren't missing much, trust me.
Visuals: 9/10
Looks just about as rad as Salt & Sanctuary. If just a tiny bit different.
Overall... 6.7/10
It just barely passes for my recommendation. Solid idea that ended up being half baked. Also brought down by the expectations of the I.P.
If you plan on trying it, I would say it's a good idea to wait for a sale.

Salt and Sacrifice is good in co-op mode. However, the game has some weaknesses, especially compared to its predecessor:
- Inventory management
- Grinding fighting the sames mages for crafting items
- the mages keep spawning as “normal” enemies and thus lose their epic character
- sometimes there are annoying jump'n'run scenes
I still give it a thumbs up because it's fun for two.
