Great team managing abilities. Moderately decent story. Not a huge deal, but a solid game for sure. Worth the 1.50 sale price.

Quite similar in terms of visuals and presentation to the early Hitman games, mainly 2 and Contracts. It's fun noticing habits and styles that developers use in their other titles. Obviously, the game itself is quite different, but there are similarities that make me think of Contracts especially in terms of the character models, animations and other visuals. This is a squad shooter, in an older, slightly janky body. As you progress throughout the game, you gain the ability to recruit nameless squadmates that stay with you until a mission ends, or if you don't revive them after they get downed. Certain actions reward you with charisma points, which fills up an experience bar below your health bar. Upon leveling up, you get to have an extra squadmate (and maybe more bonuses but I have yet to confirm that). Squadmates can be ordered to either follow you, do recon/attack an enemy if the command is used while pointing at an enemy, or command them to defend a position. This is the best part of the game, by far. Not only commanding squads, but also gaining extra squadmate slots as you play the game. If the game didn't have this mechanic, it wouldn't interest me nearly as much. What surprised me was how numerous and equipped enemy positions are throughout missions. It's clear that the game wants you to utilize squadmates, and to explore the environment to find items and flanking positions. In the first real mission of the game, you could run right into the police station, but you'll have to pass turrets and lots of soldiers with not much cover, while they're on an elevated position. What the game wants you to do is sneak into the parking lot and then enter the station thru a side door. Then in a future mission, you can walk straight into an enemy building, but you'll have to deal with a TON of soldiers and turrets, with zero cover. The game encourages exploration and flanking without 100% forcing you to do it, which I really appreciate. The weapons in the game remind me a lot of Kane and Lynch Dead Men, both with the weapon crosshair/reticle and how inaccurate weapons can be. The starting pistol for example is painfully inaccurate unless you're somewhat close to your target. The AK is a bit more accurate, on top of having a better rate of fire and ammo capacity. When it comes to what you can carry, you have a sidearm slot and an AR/Shotgun/other big gun slot. If you want to pick up a shotgun, you have to drop the AK. If you want to pick up the revolver, you have to drop the basic pistol. While weapon systems like this aren't a favorite of shooter players, it is more realistic for even an above average human to just carry one rifle/shotgun. With that being said, I think 2 primary slots would've been a lot better. The enemy AI can be a lil wack. A lot of the time, they just run right at you. The AI for your squadmates is pretty good, although they'll sometimes get stuck or not follow your commands. Since this game is from 2003, I won't slam that too much. There are games from this decade that have more unstable AI, for both allies and enemies. The story is essentially Red Dawn but in New York. You get news reports from the Soviets as a majority of the story, which serves as both comedy and context. You slowly meet the resistance and build it up, along with your own reputation. One weird part about the story is how a Soviet invasion of South America is mentioned at the start of the game, and then suddenly minutes afterwards, New York gets invaded. Seems...forced and sudden but I'll go with it lol.

This game did not age gracefully, i have fond memories of playing the Demo at sears wayyyy back in the day so i figured for $2 id give it another go. This game is from the era of 3D experimentation the controls are a mess especially the inventory system. very basic AI commands. All around the game feels clunky and old.

Love replaying this game, played a lot back on ps2. Be sure to change the resolution in the launch menu, I was only able to make it so far in the game before it just kept crashing on me. turned mine down to 1280x720.

Don’t let the release date and graphics fool you! This is an absolute video game masterpiece, boosted by an incredible soundtrack by none other than Jesper Kyd. The intro alone is better than anything modern shooters could achieve, and the game is at least on par with the CoD: Modern Warfare series! It’s basically Red Dawn the videogame, and I LOVE it! BETTER DEAD THAN RED!

If any game deserves a remake, its this one. Loved this game as a kid. Its a bit clunky by today's standards of course, but still so great. A remake of this could be fantastic.

A product of the time to be sure, but a good one regardless. I grew up with this game and decided to get it on PC as an adult and it still the fun I remember it being. Story is there and with the soundtrack by the legendary Jesper Kyd you are sure to at least have a good time running and gunning. Stealth isn't really a thing in this but there are some moments where sneaking by rather than running in head first into conflict is a better idea. For the story, during WWII the Russians create the first Nuke and end the war. After the cold war, they move on to full war and attempt to occupy the USA. You play Chris, a plumber, who gets wrapped into this fight and joins the resistance. The game play: The game play is run and gun but a cool twist on fighters you recruit. None have special abilities but all follow simple commands. Scout, Defend and Regroup. This is extremely helpful in situations where you don't want to be killed immediately as this game reloads last save point which is manual and can only be done in certain locations. This can be frustrating on higher difficulties but provides a good motivation to be thoughtful. Throughout the story you will be fighting in different seasons which will reflect in the world. There's also opportunities to raise a morale bar which in turn will allow you to recruit more fighters to join you. These present themselves as completing objectives and giving med-kits to injured civilians. The fighters themselves can be downed but so long as you have a med-pack, they'll get back up. Shooting feels a bit inaccurate which can be frustrating but I see it as making sense since you are not a military trained person. You are an ex plumber. Makes sense. Throughout each "chapter", for lack of a better word, you will have minimum two areas to go to and liberate using different methods. One area might have a chopper and the other stations troops for reinforcements in which both will show up in each others area. You can do an area in one go but the smart plan in this example would be to go to where the chopper is stationed, blow it up, then head over to the barracks and take care of it so no reinforcements will show up in either area. Ending (No Spoilers): Ending is climatic and satisfying. Does feel like it equal baits but unfortunately no equal was ever announced. IOI does still maintain the property so it's possible one day we will get one but don't hold your breath. Overall Rating: The game does something that not everyone around the time had done and with a decent plot set up and GREAT soundtrack with interesting mechanics, and the planning you can do for levels/chapters, makes this a fun game to play especially for price. I've played the game three times now just for the fights and soundtrack. GET THIS WHEN ON SALE YOU WONT REGRET IT. Is it worth full price? Maybe not considering it's age but if you grew up with it, it's worth $15. If you're on the fence, get it on sale. $1.50 is a great price for a few hours fun. Depending on the person, you can get around 10 hours a playthrough. Side Note: Favorite song is "Freedom Fighters". Just gets me so pumped and ready to fight! "HELL YEAH!"
