Loved the art style, music, narration, and combat. Bought the second game as a thank you to Odd Bug.

Fantastic metroidvania-esque game with a solid combat system that has a bit of a learning curve. The art style and story are great, and it's okay to lower the difficulty so you can enjoy it! Once I switched to a controller and got a bit more time with it, most of the controls came naturally to me. And the weight mechanic might seem like a drawback at first but you don't really see a difference between light (green) and medium (brown) weight.

just delightful! One of the better side scrolling hack and slashers. looks like a child's game on the surface, except it definitely is anything, but that as you get the gratification of smashing in heads and cutting off limbs. well done!

This is one of the numerous games that I have seen on the Steam store 100 times and didn't pull the trigger on buying. My wife bought it on xbox and watching her learn the combat mechanics on the first boss is actually what made me pull the trigger and buy the game bundle for myself. This was a neat 2d platformer soulslike. It's not a bad story, but the art and music is what really draws you into the game. Once you understand the basic combat mechanics, there isn't a whole lot new to learn so you can rinse and repeat those skills with new bosses. The combat isn't super complicated but would be a challenge if you aren't used to this type of game. The main story took me ~8 hours to beat and the Bright Fir expansion took me ~1. Additionally, there are some post game side quests and bosses that you'll unlock. I did some of those but definitely didn't 100% this game. However, this is a fun game and a delightful enough world that I look forward to playing through the sequel. My only gripe is that the Bright Fir zone wasn't longer, as I really liked that zone and the new allies that you meet; I wanted more of that. It's hard to complain about an expansion dlc story that was included in the price of the main game. Definitely a buy, and it's a game that is almost always on sale.

Tails of Iron is a surprisingly deep and satisfying action-RPG. Don't let the charming hand-drawn art style fool you – this game packs a serious punch! The combat is brutal and rewarding, demanding precision and strategy. The parry system is incredibly tight, and mastering it is essential for survival. The narrative, narrated by the legendary Doug Cockle, is grim and engaging, telling a tale of revenge and resilience in a world of anthropomorphic rats. The world-building is fantastic, and the environments are beautifully crafted. While the difficulty can be punishing at times, the sense of accomplishment after overcoming a challenging boss is immense. The upgrade system is also well-implemented, allowing you to tailor your rat warrior to your preferred playstyle. If you're a fan of challenging combat, a compelling story, and stunning visuals, Tails of Iron is a must-play. Highly recommended!

Tails of Iron is a very story-driven game with a simple but effective narrative. Throughout the game, the narrator is always explaining what’s happening, which gives it the feel of a book-like story while making the game more immersive. One of the cooler aspects of the game is that as you progress, the background of the areas change. The world around you evolves, with houses and paths being restored, which makes the journey feel more meaningful. The combat is simple but not too easy. Fights are almost always planned, meaning enemies won’t just endlessly chase you if you run past them, if you’re even able to. However, while the combat starts off fun, it becomes repetitive over time, especially since many boss fights have almost identical movesets. The hitboxes can also feel unfair at times, which adds some frustration. The game has a lot of "side quests", but they tend to be the same over and over again. They don’t feel very creative, making them more of a chore than something exciting. The overall structure is repetitive, with a lot of walking back and forth. That said, there’s a small twist towards the end of the game that adds some freshness to the experience. It’s a short game, and while it’s not worth it at full price, it’s definitely worth picking up on sale. If you’re looking for a story-driven experience with solid combat, Tails of Iron is worth checking out!
