The game has a lot going for it, it's designed with optional content in mind, the locations are fun to explore, the aesthetic is very captivating, the soundtrack constantly changes to match the environment, and it has funny characters that create a grounded, but enjoyable narrative. I think the story had a good pace to it, if you take into consideration all of the things that can grab your attention, they managed to keep it together very well. You can casually complete the game around 5 to 7 hours, there are many optional achievements and cosmetic trinkets, although it would be nice to have the ability to replay specific chapters. Having played the game only once, I am not sure how much impact the narrative choices actually have, the only thing I can confirm is that certain quests have more than one soluton. It's not a difficult game in terms of puzzles and mechanics, there is usually a place to get hints, and sometimes the game offers you a way to skip a puzzle with a payment. As for the 'thief' gameplay, there is not much to it, it's just a simple timing event with little to no punishment for the failure - I guess it does not make for a deep con game, if you were expecting that. To advance between stages you need to collect a small amout of money with con activities, it's generally a much lower number than what you can get by fully exploring the stage, so be careful not to advance too early - the game does not give you a good warning when you are about to move on (not on every stage anyway). I thought the side quests were pretty good, I already mentioned that some of them have different solutions, but I also like how the dialogue was designed with multiple choices, it helps if you pay attention. I don't feel very strongly about the main story, if anything I think it was just decent, but some of the random characters like the PawnShop owner added a lot of flavor to the narrative, it has many good moments. To be fair, I think the dialogue was enjoyable, and the game is very playful with the responses, it has that sense of self-awareness which I really like. The ending had a good sense of closure, even though I expected something more unique. There are a few small polish issues like the foreground obstructions and poorly placed boundaries, they are not too common, but it happens often enough and I thought I should mention it. I also noticed that those ear dropping areas can be unresponsive, like I will stand and spam the button and nothing happens for like 30 seconds. Aside from that, I don't have much critique for the actual game and how the story was implemented.
Pros:
(+) There are a few aesthetic elements that I want to elaborate on. I really like how you manipulated the music to match different stores, like you will have the same song remixed to complement the theme of the location, in general the soundtrack was very good. Obviously the game is very pretty, nice colors, lots of detail, fun to explore. Furthermore, it has a nice UI design, not just some random panels, it actually looks clean and easy to understand. (+) I think the game is very much designed with optional content and rewarding curiosity, and for me that was the highlight of the game, doing what I wanted to do, and finding things because I looked for them. If you were stuck for whatever reason, there are hints and ways to skip some time-consuming puzzles. You can also get cosmetics and hidden trinkets. (+) I don't think the story by itself was anything special, but with all of the fun dialogue that surrounds it, I had a good time. I love the corn guy, he carried the game by himself. There were many funny moments, if you look for them.
Feedback:
Polish - there is a problem with foreground and not having proper invisible walls. It's mostly cosmetic, but you know, it should still be fixed. Those areas with ear signs can be a bit junky, sometimes it's hard to trigger them. Not sure if you intended for the player to instantly do the 20.000 contest, it uses money you already earned too, so I don't see the point. Features - for the level 1 and 2, you should add an obvious YES/NO before you advance the stage. It would be nice to have waypoints to chapters once you beat the game (I am not 100% sure if you don't have them, if you do I could not figure out how to use them). How come you don't get to keep cosmetics? You could put them in a different panel in the inventory so you can always use whatever you like. Overall Thoughts: 8/10 I really feel sorry for the devs, I think the game is much better than their ability to advertise. If you just like optional achievements and looking for secret interactions, it's a really good game in terms of exploration. Aside from just having cool art style and dynamic soundtrack, I also think the dialogue was very fun. In general, I think it felt different from most narrative games because of the angle on the exploration. With a few small technical nitpicks, I had a good time from start to finish.
