I have yet to 100% the game (though I have gotten to the credits twice, once more recently in the "normal" way and earlier with
the Pacifist ending when The Siren offers you a place to stay
) and the experience was always fun and engaging, addictive even at times. This was a game I knew about for a while and had avoided on purpose since it was a "boss rush" meaning there are no small fries to fight, just boss after boss, plus the "Bullet Hell" tag deterred me cause I always sucked in those 2 kind of things, somehow though Furi feels both hard, rewarding and fair. Excellence really is just habit ;) Sure some bosses have kicked my butt for hours but considering my first run in the game lasted ~5 hours and re-getting to the same point (after my save was reset, though not due to a bug) took me less than 3hrs showed me how much I improved and how consistent the fights were, so much so that on the second run I never lost until I got to the new bosses that I had never met before. This is to say, even if like me you think this game might not be your cup of tea I still recommend you try it out for the ~2hrs and then decide if you want a refund or not. I originally decided to buy the game since I had "19.07" in my spotify playlist for a while and wanted to check out the rest of the OST through the game instead of just listening to it and oh boy was that the right choice, I have yet to find a track I do not like and at this point I doubt it will happen. Visually the game goes for a cool "aesthetic" and it pretty much always hit the mark, the "worlds" and especially the characters always looked interesting and different from the previous and the same goes for the fights that never feel like one another while still being consistent with the mechanics you learn throughout the game, best tip I can give is always try to learn a little bit in every attempt, maybe it's a dodge pattern or where the enemy/bullet spawn to maximize damage but in general as long as you don't force a playstyle you will not get stuck. There are some exceptions to the standard formula of a fight but they are a mild and a big spoiler respectively so read at your own risk: Blade:
This fight is different from the others because it is entirely fought in the "melee" mode and it's a riot, super hard and probably where I died the most and also my favourite fight because I love the melee phases and because it does have consistent ways to "skip" phases that you will learn through trial and error.
Big Head:
On the polar opposite this Boss (which actually I have yet to beat so maybe it changes if there is some special phase but up until the last "hp bar" this does not seem to be the case) is entirely fought in ranged mode with a gun and lasers, it was so unexpected that at the start I thought you had to dodge and wait a phase to attack since regular melees did not work, turns out ya just gotta shoot lol. I prefer the melee fights but it is a fun bullet hell (that gets kinda crazy at the end) and again, it is consistent so you do not get stuck as long as you try to learn something from every attempt
