Here is a good list of pros and cons about Wizardry 8: +You can create 6 fully customizable characters with their own personalities (Up to 18 per gender), names and portraits; +There is a good variety of races and classes to choose from and with enough variety to each of them outside from the Fighter class; +The levelling system rarely forces you to grind outside from dealing with a certain underwater boss- it's also worth noting that while your characters will have some main stats that you'll be able to increase only by levelling said characters, you also have skills that can be levelled just by practicing with said skills; +The game also never forces you to go with only certain classes to utilize certain skills and you can still cast spells with characters that are not meant to do it naturally via the use of scrolls- it's worth pointing out that a lot of classes tend to also have ways to learn magic on their own or to at least replicate certain spells; +There is lots of variety in terms of items replicating said spells; +There is a decent variety of weapons to choose from, ranging from maces and swords to guns, slingshots and crossbows- there is always a powerful weapon from each category, and you can usually share them with your party; +There is a lot of importance given to each member of your party and how levels don't matter too much- if your party members are well adjusted they'll be able to fight even the toughest of enemies, and positioning/baiting can also be important; +-The game gives you the option to take notes on different points in certain maps- the reason why this is an important feature will come in later; +-The visual are pretty decent for a 2001 game, I suppose- it still looks pretty good in certain areas and it has a day/night cycle, which usually doesn't mean much gameplay-wise; -The combat in this game is VERY slow. I suggest you take a look at stuff like wiz8fast, and even then it's still slow when it comes to projectiles coming towards you, enemy movement and animations; -There are also various community patches to render modern resolutions available; -There is also a LOT of walking to do in this game, it will probably become most of your gametime. If you do not set portals in different locations, you'll probably be in trouble in case you need a certain recruitable to stay until with you until the end or need to quickly get quests done; -Recruits in this game can sometimes leave your party just because they don't particularly like the place you are heading towards, which usually is pretty dumb and unneccessary; -This game is occasionally pretty cryptic and it requires a good chunk of exploration and taking notes of different map locations, don't be ashamed of using a spoilerless walkthrough. Personally, I think that this is a game that many patient RPG lovers shouldn't pass on, I'd give it a 8/10 all things considered! Totally worth checking out!
