Map locations are small and boring - nothing to explore. Bigger enemy types are massive damage sponges. Combat is drab at best.
Get it on a DEEP sale if anything, if you're dying to kill some zombies... but otherwise, save your money.

Easily my best one from Dead Island "series". The graphics is insane. (for sure not for everyone) I dont know what the devs wanted to do later on, but the story ending a bit unfinished if we look at 1 person story isn't finished up, but basically the game was good. Not too long, but with collecting all the journals, do all the side mission and lost and found missions, its a pretty good story. Same with the songs, voice actors, finishers and dlc's.
Enjoyable game for sure!

This game is excellent, and I played the shit out of it on Epic. Why do I not recommend it on Steam? There's an error where you can't play due to not being able to connect to EOS; it's been in the game since launch on Steam, and has yet to be fixed.

the first one was super fun. could get a car, drive around the map and explore everything. the upgrade system was awesome, you had to struggle to find enough parts, get enough money, and get cool new weapons. this game everything is spoonfed to you. there is no shortage of parts, scrap and weapons. you fast travel everywhere. then you do the mission, and then fast travel somewhere else then do the mission then fast travel somewhere else. then "oh cool theres a workbench, ill repair, level match and upgrade my weapon with the same weapon mod every other weapon i have gets." not great. pretty boring. much rather play the first one. which was great and fun

I tried to get into this game. I really did. I absolutely loved the first Dead Island, so I thought I'd love this one. And to this games credit, it is absolutely beautiful and the gore is hardcore. But good f*cking LORD is the game unforgiving, difficulty wise. Maybe I'm just bad at these types of games but there is no difficulty settings and all the zombies are absolute SPONGES when it comes to weapons. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy this game and hats off to them. But I just can't enjoy it when I'm dying every five seconds, even though I have upgraded weapons. I just can't do it.

I can only run the game if i go to task manager after launch and manually end an Epic Online app. But ok. But this causes my game to be single player only. But ok.
Died a few times on the becky bride. restarted and there´s no workbench near so i could prepare for the fight. But Ok. There´s no difficulty level changer so i could pass this part. Ok.
The gameplay is good, but nothing near the 1st game.
Went for the rage-quit -->> Unnistall option. So no, i could not recommend it to anyone.

After years of delays and development hell, Dead Island 2 has finally arrived, and while it doesn’t reinvent the zombie-slaying formula, it delivers a satisfyingly gruesome experience with outstanding visuals, entertaining side content, and brutal combat.
Combat – Visceral & Fun, but Lacking Depth
The core of Dead Island 2 is its melee-focused combat, and it absolutely shines when it comes to dismembering the undead. The FLESH system makes every hit feel impactful, letting you slice, crush, and maim zombies in disturbingly realistic ways. The weapon variety is solid, but it could have used more distinct mechanics to differentiate them. While melee combat is engaging, ranged weapons feel overpowered, making fights much easier than intended—several well-placed bullets can even cripple boss enemies. The dodge mechanic adds a nice skill-based element, though it can sometimes feel unresponsive in heated moments.
Story – Short, Predictable, but Entertaining
The main story is surprisingly short and doesn’t offer many twists—it mostly follows the expected beats of a zombie outbreak scenario. However, what it lacks in depth, it makes up for with humor and side content. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and the satirical take on Hollywood and influencer culture lands well. The side quests and collectibles offer far more content than the main story, making exploration worthwhile.
World & Atmosphere – Stunning but Compact
Visually, Dead Island 2 is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, with an impressive level of detail in its environments. “Hell-A” looks fantastic, but compared to the larger, more open worlds of Dead Island 1 and Riptide, the zones feel more confined. The fuse mechanics.are a neat addition, encouraging exploration and rewarding players for searching off the beaten path. A day/night cycle and time-based enemy variations would have added more immersion and replayability.
Performance & Graphics – Top-Notch
The game runs flawlessly, with exceptional graphics and smooth performance. The lighting, reflections, and overall art direction make Dead Island 2 one of the best-looking zombie games to date.
Final Thoughts – A Must-Play for Dead Island Fans (only if on Sale)
Dead Island 2 isn’t a groundbreaking sequel, but it’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time—and that speaks volumes. While it may not be worth full price due to the short story and limited world size, it delivers on what it promises: mindless, gory, and highly entertaining zombie carnage. If you loved Dead Island 1, you’ll feel right at home here. Just wait for a discount

Let me cut to the chase: This game did not deliver. It's simply about killing zombies that's it. The story elements are more like a minor matter than something this whole game is about. Yes, the graphics is beautiful and the details when it comes to violence are astonishing. I've rarely seen such violence in any game before. That's one of the best things about this entire game, but that's already it.
The side quests and especially the Lost & found are a massive grind and they're not always trackable and the respective symbols sometimes don't appear on the map either. It can be infuriating as hell. Initally it makes you feel like the game is bugged and you don't know how to progress.
In some L&F side missions you need to fast travel back and forth between several locations, which is often not very clear.
On top of that there are to many things you can do at the same time. When you pick up a journal or letter e.g. starting a side quest in the process and quickly decide to do another side quest popping up you can forget which steps you've already done in the quest you've done before. For instance I picked up the journal of the "My mailman was a zombie" early on in the game and when I eventually revisited the site I found it at late on in the game I had no idea why it was nowhere to be found. I had to resort to watching a yt vid from that mission and advance step by step to find out which packages I was yet to investigate. The game doesn't give you any hints.
In addition, there are way to many weapons. You spend more time thinking about which weapon to drop or put in the storage locker than you can use every available weapon. It's just not possible, unless you keep playing after finishing every quest.
Furthermore, the background music is horribly bad and makes you more depressed the longer you listen to it. I could easily select better soundtracks within a span of five minutes.
Overall this game is just not recommendable by any means. Sorry Dambuster Studios. You've fumbled hard.
