Recommend this game to hardcore survival horror fans. There are countless references made to retro survival horror classics that were fun to see throughout the game so veteran fans will see many of their favorite titles referenced multiple times. The gameplay is decent but nothing groundbreaking, the puzzles are pretty good, and the environment is nicely detailed and designed. I will say is it very easy to get lost and be unsure of what to do next to don't hesitate to use a guide if needed to just keep the game moving. Also don't expect much of a story, as there are few cut scenes and the story is told through notes and documents, so that was slightly disappointing for me. Performance is by far the worst aspect of this game, very poorly optimized so be prepared to mess with the settings to reduce frame rate issues. Overall 7/10 for me

Oh yeah, amazing, epic, a dream of a game: 10/10 for me. Resident Evil, thanks for your excellent service, a new favorite is here. -- Choose First Person -click on FPS, after choosing difficulty-, used this on Easy -not that easy after a while, at all- ! -- Or over the shoulder -- Or fixed Camera How didn't I know about it ? Superb exploring, ambience, and the action ! I'm little good for some puzzles parts here and there, not my thing, but gladly did them with the Steam detailed walkthrough in Community, for the privilege of living throughout the wonder and surprises. In inventory window, the little window -above and right corner- you can select the flashlight, use your chosen key to turn on or off, never depletes! you can select other things, stays on. Or choose holy water when you get it to see how much you have, etc. --- Disclosure and C.E. Spoilers: 70 y.o. gamer, use my own C.E. tables so my playing isn't typical. Here for other old gamers with high B.P. or like minded gamers. - Health current is 4 Bytes, Exact, Value 100 full. Once found, Health Max is always 4 bytes beyond, 100. You can put any value you want in both for they to persist till the end of the game (I used 99999). - The same for ammo in *all* weapons, 4 Bytes, find current for weapon chamber, then Max chamber is 4 bytes BEFORE current. Changing both values make the change persist all game, I used 9999, or more if you want. - Similar for holy water (100% to 99900% for piles of foes), just don't replenish or it will go down to 100%, but you can re-find again and increase it. - Spiritual power -shoot till stun otherworld foes, then sprinkle holy water while fallen, killed, they leave sparkles that grow your S.P., value in inventory, right and below window. - Etc. Good luck !

I almost would recommend this for classic RE fans, as this is one of the closest things to a classic RE that you'll find. HOWEVER.... I, being a fan of classic RE and having beaten all of them on high difficulty where a difficulty option was available, have started this on Hard with Fixed Camera on. Don't do that. The imbalance makes this not difficult, but unfair and frustrating. The amount of zombies is absolutely ridiculous, you often find them in relatively narrow hallways. You have to bait them into an attack to run past. Now this mechanic isn't exactly news to any classic RE fan. But you have to do it in almost every room here. Exploration takes a bit of a backseat, as you can simply not explore anything without zombies running after you. Speaking about running: They randomly run for a random duration. Sometimes when they're close to you. Sometimes when you shoot at them. Usually they stop after a short sprint. Heavy emphasis on "usually".... Sometimes they keep running after you until you leave the area and they're not much slower than you. It's not so rare that the camera works against you and you may run into a zombie which the camera just didn't reveal. Classic RE had this issue a few times too, but here it feels almost intentional at times. If you now think you can take zombies out from a distance - think again, the character will only auto-aim at a distance of about 10-15m or so. Enemies beyond that are ignored. This is especially infuriating when a zombie which gets shot at from max. auto-aim distance can easily catch up with you and successfully attack you. A single zombie at sufficient distance was never a problem in any RE, here they can spontaneously start running at you and kill you. Did I mention the first boss? Don't wanna spoiler too hard, but he moves at approx. the same speed as you, in a relatively small area and most of the times I tried, he didn't stop running. Shooting from a distance isn't possible, the character refuses to auto-aim at that distance. Enough said. I'm currently stuck here. Is this a bug? I don't know. By the way, the main character initially has 4 item slots, which only gets increased to 6 after finding a backpack. At the same time, you will die from 2 bites, so in other words: It's a combination of the weaknesses of Jill and Chris from RE1. There are no item boxes (so far), you drop items on the floor like in RE0. And speaking of items, you won't find even remotely enough to clear any significant areas of enemies. The puzzles are sometimes kinda obscure in my opinion and the mansion is relatively big. Add the fact that saves are VERY limited here and you just found yourself a recipe for absolute frustration. I think over the playtime of about 4 hours (with quite a few deaths), I found a total of 4-5 opportunities to save. At one point I started just following a guide, because figuring this out is just too time consuming and frustrating due to the amount of zombies, the enemy running mechanic, the inability to properly explore and all that. I'd probably be way better off to just restart this on a lower difficulty, but after having already played 4,5 hours, I'm not sure I'm motivated to do that. Long story short: Hard in Fixed Camera is WAY too hard for all the above reasons.

Ultimately this was a little TOO oldschool for me, but that's why I recommend it for anyone seeking that original Resident Evil experience. Large focus on avoiding enemies, resources are tight, and there's a LOT of doors and items to keep track of. Most impressively though, are all the features it pulls off that AAA developers haven't been able to since 2010 such as: Sharp and accurately cast shadows, functioning mirrors to look a round with, a terrifying atmosphere built from great framing and sound design, and a beautiful heroine with unlockable risque outfits. Someone explain how an indie studio's first game can nail all this yet AAA developers with 100x the budget can't?

it starts off well, despite the annoying limited inventory (quest items really should take no space) which expands a little bit over time but always means a tiny item and a shotgun take up the same space unlike a proper inventory system. but after the mansion / sewers, it turns from survival horror into a run and gun game. the increase in the number of enemies after this point is so extreme. you will be constantly ammo scarce, the knife is no longer useful because most enemies have a short ranged attack or hit you for too much damage. you are also locked in place for a bit after firing so mini bosses you need to keep running away until they pause, then you can get ONE shot in and have to run again because two shots means the locked in place will get you injured. it started out fun, it turned into a chore, and now i cannot lower the difficulty to easy to get through the chore so honestly i am not sure i will continue. So i got 8 hours of it on sale, which i guess is value for money. at some point i will start it again on easy now i know what happens later in terms of gameplay.

It is fun game. Beginning is very good. In the middle of the game story turns to some grey area - instead of horror it becomes mystic. But after few hours of gameplay you can get used to this turn of events. All in all it is good game - no bugs, interesting bosses, audio is OK. Story - it could have improvements, but it is as it is. So, this worth playing.

At first glance this game has a lot of the elements of what survival horror great - the labyrinthine mansion setting, obscure puzzles, "scary" enemies, limited ammo, limited health packs - and in the first act, it does appear that way. Being stuck in the mansion, figuring things out and where next to go seemed like playing the soul of Resident Evil. And then it just went on, and on, and on. Nothing changed, there is still the same elements of what a survival horror is - and even more elaborate puzzles, and stronger enemies. But why wasn't I enjoying it anymore? I just realized that I was now deathly bored and I realized the reason why survival horror games aren't as lengthy because the novelty wears of - you get desensitized to the enemies, and you get tired of backtracking to previous visited places eventually. Which brings me to the reason why I ultimately do not recommended this game - pacing and balance. Whereas the likes of Resident Evil 4 is lauded despite its length is because of the change in pacing (change in location, enemy types, story beats changing, Ashley keeps disappearing lol), this just seemed like Resident Evil 1 only four times its length without changing anything in its narrative to keep you entertained. I am still looking forward to potential sequel of this game or other survival horror games of this type but I hope the devs would just trim the fat and optimize the gaming experience for this game.
