Story-wise, this is very likely the best part in the series, and that says something, considering the quality of the earlier parts already not being bad at all.
My complaints aim towards the game system itself. First, the hints: In the earlier parts, you could always disable them. As far as I've observed and searched up, it is not possible anymore. It is not that big of a problem, it only gives you the "No s*it, Sherlock?" kinda advice which does not spoil the story. The main problem is with the choice summary at the end of each chapter; many modern games were infected with the "connect to view this and that" plague, and this is no exception. For some reason, I have to be connected to some service to view my choices (the statistics of other players not being avivable would be understandable, but my choices? I should be able to view that).
My final point is that I'm grateful to the devs for this part; without it, I couldn't sleep while not knowing how Clem ended up. To sum all these pluses and minuses up, I give this a 9/10. To be honest, this part being a bit more expensive than the others does have its reasons.

As usual these games are fantastic. Playing the story from the first season and watching a character grow throughout the rest was an experience unlike others. If you haven't played any of them the game is like an interactive story. Theres alot of dialogue, quick time events, choices, wondering around small areas, and searching for an item/way through an obstacle. Its the story and how its told (or how you shape it rather) that makes it an incredible game. The sound track in this season is probably the best one. It plays with your emotions. Highly recommend it.
I only have two complaints regarding this series. One was simply the choice to include the "MFK" game when were talking about kids here. Even if its something we all have played as kids I felt uneasy and thought it was very creepy on the developers part to include that. Very strange.
My second complaint is about some of the dialogue and how it was said and the impact it had. In more than a few cases I wished I had a 4th option to choose from. I felt like I could have found something better to say that wouldn't have the silly impact it ended up having otherwise. Sometimes what I chose just wasn't what I was expecting to be said. I think if they have had the Good, Bad, Neutral option be color coded rather than have it random everytime could have avoided my complaint.
Other than that they are great games and I would strongly recommend them to everyone.

The story and gameplay is still good and fun. Some choices are hard but that's the way it is. Though the ending for Clementine left me incredibly unsatisfied : I feel like she'll have trouble finding her place there.

What an awesome story..highly recommend the whole series..BTW i was lucky i didn't peek into any spoilers and treated the entire series as a single game ie played it in one flow so it felt like i played just one game..avoid any 'what to select' and just keep on going..remember hardly much changes; story diverts just only for a couple of scenes meaning the aspect of choice actually effects very little of the main story..so to enjoy my suggestion would be to just play blind.
Mini-Review :
I enjoyed the game but for me it's the weakest of the series, mostly because the required suspension of disbelief was way too high.
Checking other people's reviews, I was surprised to find no mention of that. It's true it's pretty common in the Walking Dead world to have unbelievable things, but there, it was on another level. (see the "spoiler" section below if you want details)
Additionally, I was really not a fan of the school theme : as a grow-ass man, I felt out of place controlling a teenage girl and leading her into romance and whatnot.
However, I liked teaching stuff to AJ, even if it could have been done a tad better.
Thus said, even if they are less impactful than in other games in the series, the atmosphere still works well, the characters are interesting enough, and I could play a game like that every 2 years till I die, so it's a pity it was the last one.
Choice-wise, I felt I had 0 weight on the story ; I had only to choose which character dies, or something equivalent, and thus I didn't feel implicated in the events as I was in the previous opus (ie: the New Frontier).
It took me a bit less than 10 hours to do a playthrough.
Pros :
- The Walking Dead world, still catches me every time
- The storytelling is efficient, as usual
- One quite original idea (
the human walking amongst walkers and herding them
)
Cons :
- Choices matter a bit, but the branching is obvious, so I didn't feel I was making any real impact,
especially as there were hints for different possible endings but actually there's only one
- The story is somewhat disappointing and basic
Spoilers for the unbelievable things (from the least to most major spoiler):
- Cutting very thick ropes to activate traps is stupid : it'd be much faster to have a knot system, plus it'd allow to reset the traps without requiring a new rope
- Drawing a line on a map doesn't make what's inside a safe zone but the kids think it does, for some reason
- If a grenade explodes in a semi-closed space, all the food jars around will be broken : glass isn't explosion-proof
- One raider is supposed to come from a wealthy community, but he still feels the need to steal our food saying he's starving while his goal later on was to convince us his community is strong
- The age of the different characters, and the number of years that passed by don't match (most kids would have ended up in that school before 6 years old, one of them for being a "chronic masturbator"), and Clementine aged less than AJ (~3 years vs ~5 or 6 years)
- After Marlon drops the gun, when AJ takes it back, actually everybody should be able to see him, but no one says or reacts before he shoots ; it's the classic "the character is out of the camera field, so no characters in the movie can see him" trick, and it's fucking old
- If armed raiders are going to attack your school and you have only 1 bow, just run away, you can't win
- If you didn't follow my previous advice and half your friends got captured, hiding in a walker herd to approach your enemies is the worst idea possible : bullets go through walkers, and you're going to die hidden behind them (but in the game, you didn't die, coz it's convenient)
- if you're in the middle of a battle, and you disarmed the enemy leader but she's walking through you, you're not safe ; killing her is a logical defense action. At the second one of her soldiers arrives, she's going to order him to kill you. Do not wait for that to happen. At the end of the game, AJ thought he had to kill an enemy who wasn't a threat anymore ; that's just so fucking dumb, especially if you don't kill her, she'll kill right away another character
- Why the Walkers don't attack Milly when she hides amongst them ? She's not covered in walker's guts nor act like them ! Plus they attack her at the 1st chance they got a minute after...
- If you ever want to cut the leg of someone, for the love of god, please 1st put a tourniquet below the knee and heat up your tool to cauterize, and then only after that, cut the leg ; Clementine would have died in less than 3 minutes after the cut, and would have very likely lost too much blood after only 1 minute, which means without transfusion, she'd have died shortly after
- It needs a damn long time to create a fire strong enough to heat an axe to cauterize with it, and straw won't do the job
- I likely forgot many of them, but these are the main ones

One of the best story-rich games out there, I played this when i was younger and only just finished the series. It feels like the end of an era. Game made me cry and not many games do that for me.
