I played with a steam controller as they recommend a controller.
It's a side scrolling bullet hell. And you have very limited angles of attack 85 degrees up, 45 degrees down and directly left/right. A dodge roll with a few seconds cool down. The 3rd boss is where I had to put the game down seemed built to play against the control limitations.
Not much else to it. Not a bad game but not for me. Have said that, I am still looking forward to see what else The Behemoth comes out with next.

Imagine you go to Yocco's with "The Ramen", then imagine you get there and it's closed. That pretty much sums up this game.
I will give it points for the animation, the reference to the original game in one of the cutscenes, and the final boss music.

Took me a second to get it but OMG this is such a fun game only elevated with a friend. Classic Behemoth humor that just tickles my funny bone and tight fun gameplay. Highly recommend!

Full of action, and brings back the nostalgic Flash Game & Newgrounds vibes.
Amazing art, music, and visuals overall as usual.
Best sequel of this game you could ask for basically && is very re-playable since the aliens went rogue.
And just like the originals, can be super challenging.

A review I really wish I can give a neutral rating on. This game is fun but mechanically it's a step backwards when compared to the first one. In an attempt to make it more appealing to those who play modern games as well as make it more viable as a casual multiplayer title, they've added character progression to the game and removed some of the hardcore elements of the original's old school gameplay. Furthermore controls have changed for the worse in order to accommodate a few additional things they've added (such as reloading). Adding to that since the game relies on character progression, there's less opportunity for me to use MY ACTUAL SKILL as a player to complete a run and instead I'm forced to grind out levels until I run across decent enough loot and unlock all of my ability slots to make my character viable enough to not frequently get killed (ironic me saying this since the original had one hit kills on the player).
EDIT: I added a more thorough breakdown of the game in list form below
What I liked
----------
-Maintains the art direction and humor of a Newgrounds/Behemoth game
-Music and animation are top notch
-Some of the original's gameplay seems to be there
What sucked
----------
-Abandons most of the game mechanics of the original classic and has slower paced gameplay
-Relies on procedural generation which creates bland level layouts and repetitive objectives
-Bosses aren't fun to fight
-Levels feel repetitive and monotonous
-Occasionally impossible scenarios will be generated leading to extremely frustrating situations where one will either have to save scum or lose all of their loot
-Casualized specifically to be a rogue-lite multiplayer experience
-Controls are atrocious compared to the original. They added things (such as weapon reloads) to the game that would better left out and as a result had to redesign most of the controls in a way that will trip up anyone that's played the original. Most notably dodging and digging are all assigned to a single trigger and you automatically land on enemies and players instead of having to manually trigger it. Furthermore the game has a permanent auto aim (that ironically makes it harder to hit anything) that can't be disabled and they removed melee attacks (which were done automatically if you attacked at point blank in the original) unless you specifically carry a weapon dedicated to that purpose.
Bottom line
----------
Fun for short bursts especially if you can find anyone to play it with (good luck). Definitely a casual almost party-style looter sidescroller that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Just isn't very fun. There's so much stuff happening on screen that it's really difficult to tell when you're taking damage, what the damage is coming from, what enemies are important, or even what you're supposed to be doing. You have a charged attack but it takes so long to use that it's easier to just ignore the armored enemies that randomly spawn. It feels like it's trying to embody old arcade games but it is too frenetic and too awkward to control for it to be fun. A complete miss for me.

they tried to turn alien hominid into a looter shooter roguelite(??) which maybe could have worked, but everything about it is just so poorly designed. the combat is slippery, the levels are repetitive and boring, the progression is tedious, and the bosses feel like they were designed for an entirely different player moveset. the only way to possibly have fun with this game is to play it with friends. at least the art and animation are really good
