This game is fun, but the graphics are poor and it is still full of crippling bugs. The halloween event happened today, but it crashes every time anyone picks up a scope, so I havent been able to enjoy a single match for over half an hour. I do love this game, enough that I am ranked in the top 10, but thats mostly because there are very few players. I hope this game can get its junk together. It has been way too long to still have so many bugs.

This game is so solid, need some more players! The mechanics are so solid for a VR game. The PvP is so high quality, the updates come biweekly.... I have a great time just chilling in the pregame lobby a lot of the time. The games are quick, 15-20 minutes The map is large enough to have fun, but small enough that getting around it isn't a huge pain The gunplay is smooth Idk how they did they climbing so well I also thought there'd be some kind of bad desync between players or something going in, but I've never had any problems in a firefight with that kind of thing. It's just such a smooth experience at such an early point in its development, I'm really hoping this is a game people pick up on.

its early access but it hasn't been updated in over a year. lobby's are always empty its basically you vs bots. Im curious if a early access game never comes out officially can i get my money back? i bought this expecting updates, player lobby's, a finished game.

Despite the ehh graphics at a distance, I love this game to its core. -The physics is almost perfect aside from your body not having any horizontal inertia. -Other than tiny bugs every once in a while, the gun mechanics are a work of art. -Graphics are what I would expect from an early access VR game at a close distance. That said, the graphics while scoping needs to be better somehow, it is almost impossible to snipe at distances more than 150-200m away. -The developers seem to be interacting with the players directly and updating the game frequently, which is amazing and not seen often. Overall I'd absolutely recommend this game and hope that more people start to play it so that I can get into games of more than 15 people, please do not let this game go to waste like so many multiplayer VR games before it.

I really recommend the game purely for its mechanics and idea, but the player count has to improve. I kept jumping into this game while staying under my 2 hour refund limit, and during that time I didn't see a single other player. I'm happy to leave a positive review, because my impression of the game was positive, and hopefully more positive reviews increase the player count in the future.

Is it more refined than StandOut? -Yes Is it as refined as Pavlov? -No Is the map small? -Yes Is it any fun? -Absolutely Pros: - Weapons are pleasant to use - Locomotion is nice - Climbing is great! Cons: - The map is quite small and feels a bit bleak. tl;dr; Mechanics are there, but the environment is not. Looking forward to the future :)

Found myself laying on my floor to get a snipe off. Played for three hours straight after getting a win on my first game. Heart pounding intensity! Smash-able windows, spiderman-like climbing, strong player base right off the bat on the first day. I see this game becoming a must have in VR. Can't wait for vehicles and more weapons!!!!

(review updated to reflect my experience as of Season 2 update) This game is pretty rough in its current state, and would really benefit from a lot of polish. There's a solid core here, but still lots of room for improvement. The devs seem to be actively working on improvements, which is great. Nevertheless, here's a thorough overview of my issues with the game, and why I think they are important. EDIT Season 2 update: Some if my issues have been resolved by the developer; review has been updated accordingly. The way I see it, in a Battle Royale game for VR, there's a few things that are super important beyond anything else: * it should be quick and easy to jump into a game. * inventory management should be super smooth, accessible, and polished. * the gun handling needs to be easy, making quick gun management possible in the heat of battle. * traversing the world should be painless. * the netcode should be good; players shouldn't warp. * wins should feel like you earned them. Virtual Battlegrounds unfortunately seems to succeed at 2 of these 5. Let's start with getting into a game. That used to be a problem, but has been fixed as of the 1st of May 2020 with an update, so this is pretty OK now! Next, the inventory management. This is super important in a Battle Royale game, as you want to be able to loot your enemies and manage your own inventory quickly, so that you don't get killed by someone else when you're in a vulnerable position. Since my initial review, the on-body inventory system has much improved, though sadly the backpack system still seems about as finicky as it always was. Gun handling ain't the best either. I'll forgive the game for the arcadey gun feel, but weapon recoil is applied at a much lower tic rate than my Rift renders, making all weapons feel like they are laggy, and making recoil management and staying on target difficult. This has gotten worse in comparison to what it was at release. Traversing the world is definitely something they seem to have focused on a lot during development, and it shows. The zipline system is cool, and the climbing system is amazing. Very pleased with that, and it really makes for some cool gameplay possibilities. Now, the netcode: it's not very good. I've seen people warp around and seen their positions update at a low tic rate ever since the game launched. I have not seen significant improvements to this as of the season 2 update. I think this may be due to the fact that I'm playing with people that aren't geographically close to me. Games are played with only 24 people in a session, meaning that you may not see anyone else until the final circle, and then end up winning the game with only two cheap kills. This does not feel that great, and so far I haven't really felt like I earned my victories. I'd also like to mention that I had some performance issues. They were mostly solved by setting everything to lowest, but even then I still had hitches now and then. Most notably, the first time I fire a rifle, it seems to hitch and drop a few frames, presumably as it loads up the firing sound from SSD. This is a very small issue in the grand scheme of things, but it's extremely important that something like this gets fixed; players are likely to shoot their weapon for the first time when encountering an enemy, which is exactly when you do *not* want your frames to drop. I missed out on my first game win partially because of framedrops when I fired my SMG for the first time. There's a bunch of community building features that they've added to the lobby of the game, which I think is pretty cute and hopefully allows the game to grow in playerbase. The fact that there was (is?) an in-game feature voting system seems to suggest to me that they're interested in listening to their community and improving the game according community feedback, which is great to know. Also, big thumbs up for being an ambidextrous game. Though I am not left-handed myself, I know that many early access VR games see left-handedness as an afterthought, so I'm glad to see that this early access game doesn't. Overall, I think the developers of this game need to focus on the usability of the game and the core gameplay loop. Get the inventory management and gun handling down so that as a player I feel like I lost because I didn't aim properly or because I didn't use proper strategies, instead of feeling like I lost because I wasn't able to actually grab the weapon or weapon attachment I intended to use. Once the aforementioned issues of the game are resolved, I feel like I might be able to enjoy the game a lot. Onward used to have many of the same problems back when it was a pretty new game. I voiced my displeasure with its inventory and gun handling, the devs fixed it, and after trying it again a year later it turned into one of my favorite, most-played VR games, so I'm hopeful that the devs of Virtual Battlegrounds can do the same. Minor issues that I noticed but that aren't super important to me, but that I'd love to see picked up to improve the game: * Dropped weapons can be "inside" enemy corpses, making it difficult to see them (recognize them) and loot them. * It can be hard to notice where your sniper rifle shots are actually ending up. Is there bullet drop? I honestly can't tell; snipers don't have tracers.

It is full of bugs, but it is very tense and fun. Solo is more polished, but squads are more fun. It is way better than Stand Out, and wow is the zip-line travel great fun. To the dev: For the love of god add ammo drops and give us the ability to revive in squads before adding other pointless stuff.
