I didnt feel that I could get "emersed" in this game-hint system does not work-locked up and crashed-no desire to restart at all. Not enjoyable. Very minimal work put into this and it shows. I would not recommend, even at this low price.

Decent art and music. Some pretty good voice acting. A reasonable set of puzzles and adventure style object combos. The story is interesting but I do wish that the technical aspects (Character animations) were a little better. Very good for the price. https://youtu.be/OXYyehxv8jc

This is the worst game like this I have ever played. It doesn't tell you anything. The hint button is completely pointless. The graphics are terrible and the movements are extremely slow.

Quick disclaimer: I am acquainted with the game's lead designer, and I reached out to him to help with copy-editing the English script, and providing a German translation. I was not paid for this, and I receive no payment for game sales. Though I believe my opinion remains unbiased, I wanted it made known that I did offer volunteer contribution to the game because I generally appreciate the developer's work, especially ENOLA. I did not play the actual game until its public release on Steam. Now then, review time! "The Dreamlands: Aisling's Quest" is a semi-minimalist point-and-click adventure. There is some voice acting at key scenes and a few flashbacks, but the story does not overwhelm the experience. For the most part, this is a traditional puzzle-solving P&C like Myst, plus an inventory system. Aesthetically, the game appears dated. I'm not sure if that was an intentional design choice, the limitations of being a low-budget game, or potentially, both. There are pre-rendered cut scenes which look nice, but the in-game experience demonstrates both in its stills and in its animation a relatively low polygon count and very simple animation. The most impressive animation, and an impressive plot reveal to boot, happens during the final boss sequence. As for the other aesthetic feature ... I've heard chatter among early players that the music is either dull or annoying, and that there isn't enough variety in the soundtrack. I'm inclined to disagree. This is a relatively short game to complete, and does not require a lot of music. If it's blaring through speakers/headphones, anyone is capable of going into the Options menu and reducing the music volume. I'm not familiar with the composer(s) or how the music came to be in the game, but I thought, like the classics (again I reference Myst), it had a nice atmospheric effect. At the time of first release, this game was fairly buggy, and probably would've benefitted from a month-long Early Access release to work out the kinks. At the time of this review, all known bugs that I experienced as I played have been addressed. I think the most important question, though, is about cost. There are a number of great *free* games on Steam, like Doki Doki Literature Club or the recently-released "Marie's Room." Does Aisling's Quest offer more, or better, than these excellent free games? I would argue that what the Domaginarium offers in Aisling's Quest is something different. Like the aforementioned games, the impact of the story is what drives the player to move forward. But Aisling's Quest comes with a lot of additional gameplay features, such as collecting hidden journal pages and other items, or bumping into optional dialog while walking through The Dreamlands. Some people will shy away from *any* pricetag. But I think the game is certainly worth the $5 asking price. If nothing else, I have certainly paid more for visual novels that ultimately offered me far less in terms of ... well, every aspect of the game. If you're looking for a fun, somewhat challenging P&C, but short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome, "The Dreamlands: Aisling's Quest" is a fun new game to add to your Steam library.

Short, sweet and weird. A 60/100 effort. The good Weird in a positive way Interesting game design It's a minor buzz to help Aisling resolve her nightmare Music is fittlingly moody The bad Short, zero replay value unless you're hunting the pages and toys achievements Graphics are iffy A couple of out-of-place action sequences Static feel to Aisling when in the game world - she just stands there.
