Holds up. Highly recommend. Couple parts are stupid tedious on veteran but not impossible. Good old fashioned grenade spam and enemies that can take 3 sniper rounds to the chest and keep moving lol. This is a great story and the beginning of a few legends of games in the series before it became a greedy money grab delivering a sub-par product. Replaying this was an excellent experience.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare set a new benchmark for first-person shooters when it launched, redefining the genre with its modern military setting and intense pacing. The game departed from its World War II roots to present a fast-paced, high-stakes narrative grounded in contemporary conflict. With its expertly designed missions and cinematic presentation, it quickly established itself as a standout title in the series. The sense of urgency and realism it offers remains impactful even years after its release.
The story follows a gripping narrative centered around global terrorism and military intervention, featuring perspectives from multiple characters across various factions. This approach offers a layered and immersive storytelling experience, moving players through war-torn environments and covert operations. Memorable missions such as “All Ghillied Up” showcase not only technical ingenuity but also emotional depth. The narrative structure successfully keeps players engaged through its tense pacing and dramatic twists.
Gameplay in Modern Warfare is tight, responsive, and highly refined, delivering a balance between cinematic spectacle and strategic combat. The combination of on-rails sequences, tactical objectives, and large-scale battles ensures a dynamic experience. Multiplayer mode became a defining element, introducing the now-iconic progression system with perks, killstreaks, and customizable loadouts. Its addictiveness and replayability set a new standard for competitive online shooters.
Visually, the game was a technical marvel for its time, utilizing realistic lighting, detailed character models, and immersive environments. The attention to visual fidelity helped ground the experience in a believable modern warfare setting. Effects such as smoke, fire, and debris added intensity to every combat encounter. The art direction and animations contributed to a polished and authentic look that supported the game’s tone.
Overall, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers an exceptional blend of storytelling, gameplay, and visual execution. Its influence on the FPS genre is undeniable, thanks to its innovative design choices and gripping presentation. From its emotionally charged narrative to its groundbreaking multiplayer mechanics, it stands as a milestone in gaming history. This title remains a prime example of how to elevate a franchise while pushing industry standards.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gets an 8/10.

Despite being nearly 20 years old, it's the same old Call of Duty you know and love(?). Coming back to this since last playing it in high school, as a more educated person, the detail is really incredible. I know everyone loves All Ghillied Up but actually playing through Chernobyl and seeing the decay is really something else. This game holds up in almost every aspect. The graphics are incredible, the gunplay is very good, the levels and variety are interesting. The story is as bombastic and over the top as any old action movie you can think of. This is the golden era of Call of Duty.

Ah yes, the title that made Call of Duty into a household name everywhere. What more can I say about CoD4 that everyone else has already said? This game is almost perfection, with its storytelling, set pieces, addicting multiplayer, and, at least on PC, the ability to create whatever you wanted with its own mod tools. This game still has a large and dedicated playerbase, and the modding scene is still growing.
Long live CoD4.
