this is a great game, why does no one talk about it anymore, it is quite janky and hard to learn, but it's simple and fun, i can respect simplistically. maybe i should play more games like this, but i really enjoy the defensive style of home wars, so yes buy it.
i definitely watched this game more then i played it

Got this years ago. It was one of those games that looked good on paper and I kept waiting for a balance patch or some addition of depth that never came. I never wrote a review because I kept hoping something would be added, but it was time to give up on that years ago. Frankly there is very little to do in this game and no real strategy to speak of. Enemies swarm you and you either build a ludicrous amount of troops and just plop them anywhere they can shoot, or you abuse how incredibly powerful sappers are to build a line of defenses that is nearly impossible to cross. It is very easy to reach the hive in only a few battles (too short a time for you or the bugs to unlock much of anything) but actually winning is nearly impossible due to the stat buffs the bugs automatically get as you push them out of more territory. The end result of all of this is one of three scenarios:
1. You let the bugs take territory so that they have weak stats. You unlock tech this way by artificially making everything take longer, but you don't actually need any of the tech you unlock because you can beat waves with the basic starter riflemen.
2. You try to push and hold territory, then take the hive early by using sappers. You never see or use any interesting units.
3. You try to push and hold territory, but end up in the "no man's land" of the map where the bugs have just enough territory to make defending yourself possible, but pushing inward impossible. You end up fighting the exact same battle on the exact same map 20 times until you are able to push to the next tile, then repeat.
None of these campaign paths are very enticing.
