Last Day of June combines many elements I love, but the experience falls painfully short.
The game is very poorly optimized and runs with tons of lag, long loading times, and choppy framerates. There are no graphic options to adjust to help it run any better. It's also not uncommon to run into game-breaking bugs that make it impossible to progress or, in some cases, play at all.
The game only saves at set points, with no way to save inbetween those points and no quicksave points (not even at the multiple cutscenes and loading screens you go through between savepoints). The pre-set savepoints are few and far between, it's easy to not notice when you've reached one, and you never know how long until the next one. Allegedly this is so the flow of the game isn't disturbed, but if anything negatively affects the flow, it's going through the same (long!) parts repeatedly just trying to get to the fabled next savepoint before you have to log off or the game bugs out.
My last point is a matter of taste, but the near-constant vocalisations were awful. The characters never stop making cartoony noises ("brrr! brrr!" when they're cold, "HUH????" everytime something even remotely surprising happens, giggling and squealing every time they see each other, and so on). I hate to say it, but I hated it. It just felt cringey. I understand that some voice acting is required to convey a lot of the emotion that can't be read from the characters' faces in this art style, but game like this calls for something much more subtle.
All in all, as much as I hoped and wanted to love Last Day of June and as bad as I feel ripping apart a game that was clearly made with a vision and that had a lot of potential, I just cannot recommend it.

This little game might make you cry.
The philosophy behind Last Day of June revolves around grief, love, fate, and the inability to change the past.
Without revealing too much, Last Day of June is more than just a game—it’s a reflection on life’s delicate balance of joy and sorrow. It invites players to think deeply about love, fate, and the choices that define us

I remember struggling so much when i played this game for the first time, and honestly these very kind, emotional, painful and bittersweet bits of the story should be easier to enjoy. For sure. While some parts are straightforward, you may get confused very easily in some other.
Second playthrough years later did not disappoint though. For those who just want to enjoy the story, I strongly recommend just opening a walkthrough just like I did. Immaculate experience, immersion and fulfilment. The in-game world looks so pretty as well. Skip all the headache, enjoy all the heartache.
Well, and of course - STEVEN WILSONS IS MY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT

:(
Last Day of June is a beautiful, yet very sad and haunting game. The story is very well written, heartwarming but also crushing, it hooks you from start to finish, and I definitely recommend that you play it in a single session.
It has a few bugs and some unskippable cutscenes that you've already seen can be annoying.
The soundtrack is the main reason I learned about Last Day of June. Steven Wilson is just incredible, and the game's soundtrack is no different.
