Valfaris Reviews

Set in a far corner of space, Valfaris is a heavy metal infused 2D action-platformer and the next game from the team behind Unity Awards finalist, Slain: Back From Hell. Brutal combat. Deadly enemies. Stunning pixel art. Savage soundtrack. Get ready to rip the galaxy a new wormhole.

Try - Fail - Try - Fail - Try - Fail - Try - Fail - Try - Fail - Try - Succeed - repeat So pretty much programmers life simulator.

Bad enemies placement+problematic aiming make playing this game frustrating. Not a big fan of the art and the "environments" of it too, looks all like an unpolished trash monstrousity. Probably the weapons are the only thing that are good, the possibility to use melee and shooting works well in combat, except when enemies spawns in strange corners forcing you to take damage because they're impossible to reach or to take them down clean. Metal music can't save the day if playing the game feels discomfiting.

As much as I didn't like Slain, I was so enthusiastic about Valfaris. You can say that the programmers learned from their mistakes and made a game much superior to its predecessor in every way. Also, when it's on sale it has a really convenient price. Highly recommended!

Music, art and world is great but controls are not enjoyable for me. Also, the checkpoints are deliberately put in places so that you have to play the same places over and over again. I understand that this game is built upon retro games so 8 point aim is chosen. But I hated the fact that you have to move while shooting (or press shield to stop moving which makes you eat all the bullets). I wish they had chosen a hybrid method (using modern technology) to bring back retro games.
