I would like to just say i have been playing sub games for many years... starting with the DOS 688 attack sub and working on up with almost every sub game to date.
Don't buy this game as there are other better sub games out there.
This game has game play and control issues:
1. while adjusting the weapons load-out the game world is moving, which cause you to bounce out of the adjusting the load-out too which you have to go back into it. If the game had been made properly the player should not get interrupted while doing anything. No reason it should take hrs away from the player when they are in effect just filling out a form to requisition torps... time should only count after the player makes the selection
2. the load-out process is laborious and could be done allot better, a drag drop method for loading torps would work much better than adding and subtracting total counts with tubes being impacted last.
3. Ship controls are tiny with many lacking a tip tool that will tell you what the button is.
4. Ship controls are not one stop shop but hidden behind many tabs.
5. loading a save game can cause a mission to fail, this happened to me on a new game after i had just made changes to the load-out and was making movement to the objective area. I loaded the game and seconds later it tells me that i failed the mission.
6. the save game function lacks feedback that you saved the game... I clicked the button many times as it makes no noise or gives any visual que that it worked.
7. loading a save game has to be done after you pick what campaign you are picking. by default it is selecting one campaign so if you don't have a save in that one it looks like your saves were lost. Many other games do it better, like fallout 4 will put the save under the name of the player and then put all the saves under that name. As you can name your Captain it would be more intuitive than this slop.
8. The lack of a time controls makes the game run way too fast and not slow enough when it needs to be slow. Time Control like Kerbal Space Program would work much better or even as in any Total War game.
I am deleting this game and having it removed off my steam account, a waste of cash.

I like this game, have being playing submarine sims since Silent Service series.
It can be a tense knife fight underwater, especially trying to get into the opposing sub's baffles.
The only criticism I would have is that you are not able to have the ability plot the course of a contact on the screen, so if you lose contact you can have a rough guess on its position when trying re-establish contact.

Fun concept but leans a bit too heavily into AI cheats to get around the mechanics to the point of being unfun.

Has quite a lot of learning and mentally adjusting to the game type -curve, but really delivers once you grasp that it's not a point and click shooter game. One of the better games in my library for a very specific, slightly autistic niche. Don't try to recommend this to your friend whose war game experience is limited to Call of Duty.
Submarine captain's job during a war isn't to have epic duels, it's to destroy the enemy without being noticed and then gtfo. If you try something else, welcome to (semi)modern warfare with where (semi)autonomous and intelligent weapons will F you up when you do dumb things.
