From what I've seen, you're way more likely to think the game sucks if you were a kickstarter backer and care about "broken promises" like absent DLC characters even though the game already has WAY too many characters. I knew nothing about the game going into it except I loved the visuals, and ended up liking it a fair amount. But I got it cheap on sale. The game is totally beautiful, no doubt. The animations are fantastic and I liked a lot of the characters and voice acting. The story is serviceable but not amazing, though sometimes there's some good character moments. I wanted to see what would happen next throughout. I thought the platforming was pretty awesome. Sadly once you get to the end of the game though it becomes broken and you can basically fly across everything. But in the middle of the game there is a definite sweet spot where traversing the obstacles of the world is really fun. I love clinging my axe into a wall, jumping off of it, bouncing my spear on a floor of spikes, etc. It's no Celeste or Hollow Knight but sometimes I got a similar sense of enjoyment in clearing a difficult obstacle. The combat is fun and visceral but also NOT finished. A lot of characters don't have any super attacks or really any distinguishing combat abilities, and there are way too many characters in the first place. It's definitely the weakest aspect of the game. It can be fun to just demolish enemies and the combat animations are fantastic, but there's not much in the way of challenge or strategy. It's a real shame that there's not more depth here. I also had some experience with VERY long loading screens when freely exploring, and occasionally the visuals of a level would take a long time to load even then. Overall, good game that's not finished. It could have been great if it was finished, but I still had fun with it anyway.

It is not a bad game, but it is unpolished and the characters are very hit or miss. I cannot recommend it. Also randomly puts you into fights way higher than you with no way to get out of it or any warning before hand.

Its not perfect, and I know there was drama surrounding a member of the team, but this is still pretty cool. This game likely won't blow your mind, but it absolutely has something to offer. Combat is interesting conceptually, but I think the turn-based format actually holds it back. I'd love to see what a follow-up on this style could look like, because I love the way it feels. I've seen some people claim that combat take too long and there's no reason to use thought when attacking, and I couldn't disagree more. I had a whole team based around juggling enemies, and I was DECIMATING enemy health bars. Outside of combat, the platforming is pretty good. It has solid Metroidvania fundamentals and is just plain satisfying. The only aspect I was underwhelmed by were the amount of times Ajna (the main character) or a party member would just give you the new traversal option right as story says you need it, rather than finding it on your own. The writing is more of a mixed bag, but I still appreciate what they were going for. The game 90% of the time has a pretty light tone, and that works well with the presentation style. I think some dialogue does suffer as a result, but it did get some chuckles out of me too. Voice acting can range a bit as well, but its more often just amusing to me. Ajna's character journey was solid, only really held back by maybe being a bit abrupt. Music is pretty nice throughout. Exploration is pretty rewarding too. There are several optional party members that are a lot of fun to use. Ajna also upgrades using collectibles you find while platforming. Like I said, solid experience.

I HATE MY CHUNGUS LIFEEEEEEE. A while ago I made a list of games in my backlog and put that list in a roulette wheel and this one got picked first. I've always wanted to play this game because the art is awesome and I always liked the style of Skullgirls. A rule I set is that, no matter what, whatever the wheel lands on, I will finish that game and not start any others. This was a nightmare, only saved by the fact that the game is extremely short. This game has absolutely no soul, it has good art and designs that enamor you, the animation parts are also really good, but that is all it amounted to. A nice visual piece, the actual "game" is really upsetting. The combat is special in a bad way, it is extremely barebones and boring. It is like fighting games on modern controls but as a beat em up which is absolutely ATROCIOUS MAN. This game worked more on its platforming than it did combat, so on that note. The platforming is pretty bad as well, the designs of these levels are so tedious. Lots of times the input is also terrible so while trying to make a jump or hook to a ledge it messes up easily and you end up repeating it and wasting time. AND OH MY GOD, THIS VAULTING CRAP IS SO BAD INSTEAD OF A TRADITIONAL DOUBLE JUMP, I'd say props for doing something unique but all they did was TAKE AWAY SOMETHING THAT IS NORMAL AND REPLACING IT WITH DOODOO. A lot of the platforming is frustrating until you unlock all the abilities, but the rate at which you unlock these abilities is pretty slow and goes on until the near end of the game, but despite this there are parts of the levels where you need an ability to get to but can't do that until you get that ability later on, thus having to backtrack. There is an unfathomable amount of backtracking on the levels in this game, that is what this game is 70% of the time. The story and characters are terrible too, I understand it's a very small time frame but the characters have zero depth and are just walking cliches, the protagonist is obnoxious and annoying and the other cast have nothing special that makes you like them. The story is also just extremely undercooked and shallow, it is so generic and unenthusiastic. Also, instead of having the levels be orientated to the story, it is the opposite where the story is only a meaningless navigation tool to get to the next level and agonize. I was chudfacing so hard experiencing this because this is the biggest nothing burger story ever. Okay, there is some bit of praise. The game does kind of lock in at the final hour. The platforming isn't too bad and it does SOME cool gimmicks with its combat to make the final fight pretty cinematic. The soundtrack is also actually really damn good, like for most of the game it's pretty okay and meets the bar but at the final stage it just pops the hell off. And like I mentioned at the start, the art is pretty dang good even if it dips in quality in some areas, the character, enemy and environmental design all look great. A part of me feels pity for this game, it honestly does feel like it had a lot of potential, but whether by choice or actual constraint, never could reach any of it. I'm not sure why but it could be with what I'm about to say next. If nothing else, take this away from my review for whether or not you should buy this game. This game finished development and then shortly after the developer team Lab Zero Games faced dissolution. Several employees were laid off and it became a scandal with later on a lawsuit. I did my digging on this because I wasn't there when this happened and from what I understand, initially the CEO of Lab Zero Games (Mike Z) was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct with his employees, but years later more information comes out that even his said employees might have been no better than him and did the same thing. That's why I recommend you don't buy this, at least not on Steam so these people do not earn money. Not only is this an arguably bad product, it is also from bad people. So in conclusion, not worth the money, if you have gamepass play it through there since the devs will not get money from it apparently, that is all. Good night.
