Minimalistic and challenging. Somewhat similar to nonograms, but way harder. Loved it. P.S. in case of complete devastation one can cheat his way through

Genuinely unfun rules, counterintuitive controls, seemingly no QoL (one missclick is a restart for full score, the game will tell you you don't need to remove any more squares, but you'll still need to mark all the ones that need to stay). Frankly a little insulting to hex cells that it's sold in the same bundle.

My opinion of SquareCells is very similar to a comment I have about HexCells: what if Picross withheld certain details that were vital to completing the puzzle? This game attempts to make up for removing clues about certain columns and rows by adding numbers inside of certain cells that indicate contiguous segments. Despite this, every puzzle after the first few left me thinking that I simply didn’t have enough information to figure out the solution, resulting in a frustrating loop of trial and error. Also, where Picross-type games often let you mark squares with placeholders in order to experiment without cost, SquareCells forces you to mark each square as “keep” or “remove”, with an immediate penalty if you pick the wrong one. On the plus side, I was able to complete this one faster than most of Matthew Brown’s other games.
