Nice but useless.

The stats on the robes are pretty decent. The staves and the weapons are..interesting.

I like them, but they should have been part of the main game. Nobody likes to pay for additional stuff like this, it's overpriced. These robes cost one third of the main game, that's just weird. It's obviously just a cash grab. I want to give it a neutral review. But I can't do that on steam: Here goes a negative one instead. I would expect at least a brand new campaign for such a price.

I sold some useless TF2 items to buy this and I was afraid that I'd hate all the items' stats, even if the urge for maximum fashion potential drove me to purchase them in the end. But you don't care about what I think of the robes' looks! You want some STATS, BABY! Okay, onto that. I wasn't disappointed. The robes' descriptions come across a lot like Magicka 1's robes, which was really nice. The effects of the robes are useful, and the weaknessses are able to be managed with some thought. [b]DESERT ROBES[/b] - The desert robes offer a resistance to fire and cold, with a slight boost to movement speed. - They come with a weakness to arcane damage. - The staff grants a boost to fire and earth. It weakens your water and ice spells. - The scimitar has high physical damage, comparable to the chainsword. [i]Simple, useful effects with an easily managable weakness. The staff reasonably only has one drawback, since the water spell deduction doesn't really do anything.[/i] [b]ICE ROBES[/b] - The ice robes offer a resistance to cold, and a weakness to flames. [i](duh)[/i] - They DO NOT prevent you from being chilled (slowed by frost), however they prevent being frozen solid. - The penguin staff boosts cold spells, and weakens fire spells. - The ice mace is pretty wicked, it does serious ice damage (resisted by elves but not much else). [i]The effects of the robes are pretty lacking, all things considered. The staff is pretty nice since you still get to use steam without damage penalties, unlike the other cold-boosting staves.[/i] [b]SAMURAI "ROBES"[/b] - These are still robes, right? - The samurai... robes boast a resistance to physical attacks and a tremendous movement speed bonus. - However, they render you weak to cold, fire, and lightning all at once. If you can ward yourself quickly it's well worth it. - The jade dragon staff is interesting. It boosts fire and cold spells. It weakens earth, lightning, and arcane spells. - The jade katana has huge physical damage, but has way reduced effectiveness of enchantments. [i]The dragon staff is the coolest part of the set if you ask me. Earth projectiles, electricity, and death beams are nerfed while using it. It wants you to use sprays like a dragon's breath![/i] [b]So there you have it. The only robe I consider lacking in interesting gameplay is the frost one. The resistance to cold without immunity to being chilled is questionable, since it usually means you end up warding yourself against cold to prevent the slow anyways. I'd be very pleased with the simplicity of the frost robe resistances if they were taken to an extreme to compensate. A complete, total immunity to all frost-related magicks in exchange for a totally lethal aversion to flame would be cool. Perhaps even taking partial damage from your own fire spells? A snowman wielding a flamethrower wouldn't be a snowman for very long. Despite all that, I still wear the frost robes for thematic (see: impractical) reasons since I prefer using cold and ice spells over steam beam thoughtlessness. If you like what you see, go ahead and pick them up. They all look pretty awesome, the staves all have a place, and the effects are desirable.[/b]
