Super basic shoot em up presented in flash game. Hard pass on this one.

This is a terrible game.
The game itself is a horrible mish-mash. Even simple things like the sound and music sliders are done poorly (this is in unity, and they are clearly not getting the slider value from the saved preferences when they load the scene). I couldn't figure out whether "Star Game" is a typo or just a really bad name for playing.
The power-ups, such as they are, are mostly random, and all last for just a short period of time. This is a good thing, because power-ups can be negative as well as positive, like slowing down your ship for 30 seconds, or making you unable to fire for 30 seconds.
The objects on the screen are huge compared to the play area, which means that it is really easy to hit and to be hit. Also, enemy shots often appear to have faint particle trails attached to them, without any actual image for the projectile. This means you can't see many of the enemy bullets that are coming at you. That is devastating for a bullet hell type game.
Also, the art is all over the place in terms of quality. Either they have an artist that is really not very good, or they bought assets from a variety of places, and then just threw them all together without thinking if it made for a visually coherent experience. Speaking of visual incoherence, your ship is set up in a side scrolling mode, but the particles in the background come straight at you as if they were purchased for a flight simulator.
All in all the whole thing just does not work. The game is needlessly difficult due to randomly bad powerups and invisible bullets. The art is a mess. The options don't work right. They didn't even put an intro graphic in the unity launch screen.
I assume this is someone's first attempt at a game. Don't waste your money on it.

This game is TERRIBLE! first off the main menu, doesnt actually go away no matter what you do.
the gameplay is repetitive and everything just flys straight from right to left, the sound oh god the sound! it actually hurts to hear.
and to cap it all off, turns out this is a Demo, you get to a certain part in the "game" and it comes up with "THIS IS A DEMO"
0/10 would not recomend, want money back also have lost 5 mins of my life that I'll never get back.

There is a graphics/input screen that pops up before game.exe starts up.
(yes it really shows up as game.exe)
This easily lets you chose your resolution and control scheme.
Wait a second where did my mouse go?... Nevermind that...
The first thing you may notice is that just like real life, the illusion of choice doesn't always result in change.
In fact, chosing a new resolution doesn't scale the game like you'd expect, it merely changes how much of the game you are able to see on your monitor.
Likewise the input selection doesn't actually do anything. The game plays with default controls no matter what.
On to the game itself. Honestly I don't know what the fuck is going on with the random powerups.
I got too scared to take any powerups out of fear that I will lose my directional movement control.
So apart from powerups there is guns, LOTS OF GUNS AND THEY SHOOT LASERS!
But wait all the guns are the same gun, that play the same overly distorted laser sound at different speeds. That's fine I can just mute the game so I don't go deaf and play for 15 seconds and die and watch the amazing opening still frame cinematic with a mumbling narrator who's words I can't even begin to understand.
"Atreo3....invade...planet....destruction...BEGINS NOW!" Ok got it thank you for that.
But on the other hand... TRADING CARDS!!!! YESSSSS
Have fun!

For $0.13 it's worth a try. In a way it's one of those games that's "so bad it's good". There's hilarious grammar issues like how the main menu says "star game", and when you get "horizontal freezed". Plus, I encountered the world's easiest boss. A huge ship slowly came into view, and I prepared for a fight. Then I shot it once and it blew up, and I burst into laughter. After level 5 the game just becomes a jumbled mess with dozens of things flying around the screen, and you can't even tell what projectiles are yours and what's trying to kill you. Definitely a fun bit of entertainment for less than a quarter, definitely not a good game though.

This game is a fucking joke, just launch the game and get to the main menu:
- unskippable intro
- music and sound effect volume at 900%, sliders don't work
- looks like shit, if there was a hell for your eyes this would be it: textures look like they're 16 by 16 stretched to 1920*1080, buttons look like they were designed by 6 yo kids.
Get to the game and it will fucking look like a video game project from a kid trying his luck in video game development, in its very first state.
Don't buy it except if you count on getting money with the trading cards

Honestly the biggest pile of shit on steam.
Text is unreadable.
Menu doesn't close.
Audio loud as hell, did I tell you can't turn it down due to the main menu refusing to close when you open audio options.
An 8 year old with 3 hours using gamemaker could make something that would be tripple A in comparision to this "game"

edit after main menu bug fixed:
Now that i can advance there are new items that i see: non-skippable intro. No subtitles combined with cheap voice acting. Against this backdrop the old 'someone set us up the bomb' -level of hilariously bad intro to a game is wonderful compared to this plain bad intro.
Gameplay does have some ambition with the power-ups. All the rest? just plain bad. After trying a bit to get into the game i just can't. Music doesn't help much. This really does remind me of the 90s comp sci class projects.
- Original review -
Well the dev dun goofed with this release. Lets do a quick listing:
1. Main menu. it is indeed stuck as some have reported. No way around it as the main menu is just there. it is clickable and active as an overlay over the game events itself or sub-menus. You can even start game - when you are already in a game you just started.
Just to be sure i tested on 1920x1080 Full screen and the much lower recommended default setting + windowed. Nope, menu is still there.
2. Typos. such as 'star game' in main menu when you want to start the game.
3. Unskippable intro videos. everything is UNSKIPPABLE. I measured how long it takes to reach main menu after the game is launched and window is visible. It takes 41 seconds.
I'll check this review again once the game is actually working. dev has noted the problems it seems.

I bought this for thirteen cents, because last time I bought a game for a handful of pennies it actually turned out well.
Not this time, though.
To start, the intro is a long, drawn out sequence of polygons materializing into the name of the developer. Naturally, it's unskippable or I wouldn't whinge about it. Every time you start up this game you spend 15 or so seconds watching digital paint dry so you can be reminded of who made it.
Once you reach the menu, you can change settings, get a description of the player ships, and "Star Game." "Star"-ing the game allows you to get a bit of understanding of the game's story in audio and comic format, but only a bit. The comic may or may not be well drawn. It's hard to tell, as it looks like it was passed through so many filters in photoshop it's almost nothing more than grimy blotches of paint split up into frames, and the voice-over is somewhat hard to understand.
After the comic, there is something that technically qualifies as gameplay. The ship controls don't feel very smooth or natural, enemies fire clouds of smoke that blend in with the background, and floating powerups may randomly speed you up, slow you down, or lock an axis of movement. As someone who's played a decent amount of shmups both on Steam and off, randomly screwing over the player or hitting him with things he cannot see are not generally considered good elements of gameplay in the genre.
Other than that, the enemies and powerups seem to be randomly placed, dying advances the level, and there aren't any animations for ship movement.
Keep my thirteen pennies, dev guy. Keep them, and when you're planning to release your next game, ask the pennies, "Have I really made a complete product, or should I keep working?" They won't respond. Pennies can't talk. But in your heart, you'll know the answer.

Despite the current bug with the menu - which is being fixed by the devs right now, I have played the game for a few minutes and can't recommend it.
Your objective is to free Astreal 3 from this evil spaceship invasion. That's all you get for a game story.
Once the actual playing begins you find yourself in a spaceship shooting at random ships and asteroids that fly across your screen. Destroying an enemy ship will release a blue aura/cloud that is collected by your ship and fills the bottom 'Lvl' bar, once it is completely filled a sound is played, the backdrop changes and the bar will now say 'Lvl 2'. After a couple of bars are filled a boss will appear.
When the boss was killed, I would expect the game to slow down a bit and maybe have some proper level/story progressing but instead the screen suddenly freezes and you are rewarded with a message that says "This is a Demo" "The Main Menu will be loaded in a few seconds" - That was when I began to laugh really hard.
This game has 15 different types of enemies and 5 bosses - that's what the Steam trailer says, I have fought four of the bosses and they all can be easily destroyed by holding the shoot button, just like any other of the 15 enemies, except maybe for the round white ship which is the only thing that doesn't runs in a flawless straight line through your screen.
Although I could go on and talk about sound, visuals and such, I will end this review here because I believe that the fact this game is apparently just a demo, with no real challenges or story progression, is enough to justify why you shouldn't buy Stellar 2D.
0/10 - Hold spacebar [strike]to Win[/strike] and the Main Menu will be loaded in a few seconds.
