The game’s strongest quality is its atmosphere. The Norwegian wilderness is rendered with haunting beauty — twisted trees, fog-drenched trails, abandoned cabins, and eerie stillness define the landscape. It’s clear the developers drew heavily from their Scandinavian roots, as every inch of the environment feels lived-in, real, and ominously quiet. Sound design is minimalistic but deeply effective. The ambient noise of rustling leaves, distant howls, and the soft crunch of snow underfoot all heighten the feeling of isolation. There’s almost no music, but when it appears, it’s used sparingly and with emotional precision. The use of Norse mythology is also a standout. It doesn’t rely on the overused tropes seen in mainstream fantasy games. Instead, it digs into the darker, more forgotten corners of the lore — tales of sacrifice, monstrous guilt, and gods who demand blood, not worship. This gives the game a unique voice, placing it closer to a dark folktale than a conventional horror title. Easy to complete but enough long to go through the story!
Walking through the Woods
- Buy it, when it's on sale. 20€ is a bit much
Story
A Story around a lost son and norse mythology. Pretty interessing. It contains some dark themes and horror elements, but I would regard it as pretty light horror. Suitable for players, who normally shy away from horror games. 8/10
Gameplay
You mostly walk around and follow the linear story. Here and there you use your flashlight. Simple.
Graphics
It looks really dated, especially the characters and water. But after some time, you'll get used to it and appreciate the beautiful landscape and architecture.
Achievements
Acheviements are fun to strive for and guide you through the game. Story and collectibles. 100% completion took me 4 hours.
