Unavowed is probably the best-in-genre of old school 90s adventure games. The art feels like a direct sequel to Ken and Roberta Williams, and the story feels like it's set in the Gabriel Knight universe. This includes the crappy parts. Tumbler lock puzzles, combining items, order-of-operation NPC questlines, backtracking, B-movie story - the whole meal deal is included in this. The sharp edges have been rounded to be as gentle as possible and the built-in hint system in NPC dialogue works great. So it's the most enjoyable game of its type, with a refreshing sincerity in all its chapters if you can get past the cheese.

While I haven't actually finished this game yet, I am enjoying my time with it a lot. The story and characters are interesting and the puzzles are challenging but not so much so that it gets annoying. Not only that, the entire game is voice acted (not a given with these types of games) and quite well too, in my opinion. I also really like the art style - and this comes from someone who isn't really that into pixel art style in games. So all in all, I'm glad I finally took the time to play this game after letting it sit in my Steam library for months. I will probably edit my review a bit once I have actually finished the game, but so far so good and I'd totally recommend this one if you're in for an interesting supernatural mystery to solve.

Great writing, strong characters, wonderful modern P&C adventure set in an urban fantasy world. Great morality choices to make that echo back in satisfying ways. The puzzles are pretty straightforward and not overly complicated, if that's what you're looking for!

Excellent game. Splendid voice acting as usual for Wadjet Eye, save for the owner of that bagel store who got a bit too close to the mic. But he doesn't talk much anyway. This game is a spiritual (heh) successor to the Blackwell series. This means it's a wild ride involving the occult, New York, some light to medium challenge puzzles with not much moon logic, lots of dialog (all voiced!) and great retro pixel art. It's got a fantastic soundtrack too! Just like Blackwell, it also comes with some hard decisions and sad moments. And there is not really what I'd consider a good ending. Some of the characters are a bit flat, but they're all likable and unique. Anyway, play this game!

Great story, cool pixel art, and smart puzzles. No stupid solutions like in many other point-and-click games. Recommended

I've been meaning to play this for years, finally got around to it. Puzzles are mostly logical, so no really bizarre answers like old King's Quest point and clicks. Story is good, urban fantasy type, which I enjoyed a lot, and oh... one of the best things is that all the puzzles can be solved no matter who is in your party. I enjoyed this enough that I'm going to go back and 100% it.

The game that started my love for point-and-click adventure games. Urban fantasy is an overdone genre these days, but Unavowed has the creative chops to make it feel fresh and unpredictable. The world feels lived-in, grounded, real; your characters are a sharply realized, colorful ensemble who'll want to see more of after you reach the end.

I'm embarrassed to say that I bought this game years ago and attempted to play it twice but got overwhelmed by the intro and decided to play it later. I'm so glad I decided to play it again and oh my god I've missed so much in the previous years! The game starts off with an intense scene where one of the characters is trying to snap you out of your haze, asking you questions about who you are and what you've been doing before the demon possessed you. You'll get the option to choose between a man or a woman, a name for yourself, and the interesting part is that when you choose your past profession, each choice will play a different origin story. The choices are:

Actor
Police Officer
Bartender
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3450641758 After choosing, you'll start a short flashback of what you were doing before the point of being possessed. After that, you'll meet the first two companions of the unvawed, and you'll learn that they are a society who are working together to stop evil. Every case will give you a glimpse into your companion's life and what they were before joining the Unavowed. After meeting the four companions, you'll get the option to choose who will accompany you in the next case. You can only choose two, and each companion has a unique skill and encounter, as they'll give you their insight and have a different approach to solving any puzzle. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3452150441 As with any point-and-click game, you will converse with people and solve puzzles, but this game is huge. The story branches, and each decision you take has consequences you'll see through your gameplay. Depending on your choices, your companions could join you or not in the final battle. I'm in love with the artwork, the portraits, and the whole graphics of the game; they are so smooth and beautiful, and even the reflections on water are mesmerising. The voice acting is really good; most of the voice actors did an outstanding job. KayKay is so cute, and Kalash and his daughter Mandana have the best voices of all. The soundtrack is nice and fitting; none of it sounded repetitive or annoying. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3450641825 Pros: +Amazing story with different routes. +Beautiful soundtracks. +Well-done voice-over. +Outstanding and detailed pixel art + Beautiful character portraits. +Choice of your character's background (Total of three) +Choice between a male or female character. +Manual + Automatic save files. +Hinting system (Asking your companion what to do next) +Multiple endings (Total of four) +Steam achievements. Cons: - Some of the voices have lower quality than the others. The writing of the game is phenomenal. The replay value is high, as you have four different endings and six scenarios to choose from. The game is very well made, and you can see the love poured into it. I highly recommend it.
