instant-death traps are not a fun vector of difficulty.

Incredibly good and incredibly difficult. Always enjoyable and remains to be one of my favorite games. Multiplayer is also very enjoyable :)

Pretty good game. Pisses me off. Wildling having negative range is always a fast track to death, and not knowing how to change spell targets makes Wizard eat shit against minion bosses. Fun time overall.

Spelunky as a Roguelike with classes. It's quite fun, but also quite difficult. Though, it feels fair, like you kind of understand "Yeah, I deserve that" Most of the time.

It's got a pretty good soundtrack. Very enjoyable indeed. The gameplay is a little messy and mildly disconnected feeling from each other element, in my opinion, due to the breadth of different and strange options for fighting, but that's fine, and leaves a lot of room for different playstyles.
Vagante epitomizes the concept of "difficult for the sake of difficulty,"
which wouldn't be a problem if that didn't coincide with, "if a glitch nudges you one pixel too far, your progress is gone through no fault of your own." And even THAT wouldn't be such a big deal if progression weren't so pathetically, agonizingly slow. Unfortunately, getting through the first few areas is almost entirely RNG; without proper gear, you're going to die a lot. This is important because progressing toward your next unlock depends on your "score," an amalgam of gold accrued, enemies killed, etc. So if you die in the first area, you get maybe 5-10 points. And you need hundreds of points to unlock anything.
And that's... not fun. That's kind of my whole point here.
Some games toe the line between difficulty and enjoyment, whereas Vagante dives headfirst onto the wrong side. I don't know why a game developer would make a game this hard without first weeding out the run-ending bugs. If your product is a chainsaw, you better make damn sure that it goes in the direction of the tree and not in the person operating it. Same principle.
All that said, I like the art style and the music a lot. It's a cool concept with bad execution. I stuck it out on that basis alone, trying to give this game a chance, but all I did was screw myself out of a refund.
It's not fun. Play something else.

This game is amazing: basically Spelunky plus…. side scrolling Diablo? Runs perfectly on the Steam Deck. I have no idea why this isn’t a multi-million megahit. The polish is incredible.

One of my favourite roguelikes hands down. Great classes, amazing loot, a great difficulty that inspires careful consideration, and can support 4 people locally or online. WHAT. Insaneeee value for a $15 game.
My only gripe with this game is its later levels lean on more and more bullshit as its "difficulty". It really sucks to play your heart out for 30min-45min only to die to an enemy that can oneshot you from full hp. This bullshit is manageable with items and loot, but getting those items can be a matter of luck. This is the only un-fun play-pattern in this game.

Genuinely overlooked roguelite with a fleshed out levelling system and all of the cruel-but-fair fun of games like Spelunky. This game has a charm that is both addicting and infectious; every secret mechanic you and your friends discover is a euphoric revelation in itself, and is best enjoyed without outside information.
