This is the BEST version of Final Fantasy 4. I wouldn't even bother with the pixel remaster. This is pretty much the difinitive version of this game. best graphics, voice acted and great music and fun extras thrown in. d

This is a terribly visual version of this game holy smokes. Couldn't bring myself to play it after the first 15 minutes or so. It looks awful and super zoomed in. A shame as the game itself is good, but this version is just atrociously done. I have other copies of this game and started a run with the Pixel Remaster version. Get that version. Don't get this.

Probably my favorite of the 2d games, the 3d remake might not be the best version but it's the version I enjoy the most.

Not a fan of the 3D style. Some QOL improvements (thank goodness), but on the whole, just not really worth playing now compared to VI,VII,VIII...

Story telling doesn't age well, but the characters and story are timeless. Great classic JRPG

Great game with a cool world and some fun characters. If they had spent time developing a big bad instead introducing the final bad guy earlier than just the final battle the story would have been more impactful. Still a great jrpg.

FF4 is a great, if dated game and this 3D remake is a fine way to experience it.
I like this version but whatever you do, don't try to 100% it. The game is about 40 hours long, the other 70 hours is grinding 0.4 - 0.8% drops off specific enemies.

Buyer beware. In short, this is a fine game, but this release is horribly outdated and a complete mess. If you have the DS version, play that instead. If you haven't played FFIV at all (or any other FF game for that matter), please just play the 2D version first. The Pixel-Remaster is fine.
The good: This is an excellent title. It serves as a much more challenging version of a classic title, with some exclusive content to spice up the deal. I must stress that this game is HARD, especially if you thought the original was too easy (it was). Even the earlier boss battles will potentially have you mashing your keyboard in frustration until you figure out the needed strategy. Grinding is almost essential to make it to the final boss, and more-so for the extra bosses. Why is this a good thing? I'll explain later. The New Game + mode adds some replayability that the original lacked, separate from the GBA release. The world of the game has been thoughtfully brought into 3D, and while I don't care too much for the artstyle of the characters, I do appreciate what they did with the overall transition nonetheless.
The bad: Just gonna get this out of the way first. This game is NOT friendly to beginners in the series. It is brutal with how hard it can be, and there's no way to tone it down. But since the classic was so easy, this is a welcome change for me. It serves as a great 2nd or 3rd playthrough after you've completed the original/GBA/PSP versions. THAT SAID AND DONE...holy FUCK this game needs a remaster. It's nice that I can set the resolution before loading the game, but anything above 1920x1080 is broken. The UI is laughably bad, being low-res, power-point tier garbage. The pointer that appears on your selection is low quality and cropped poorly. The in-game UI isn't much better. This would look fine on the DS, but the PC it just looks cheap and shitty. No way to fix it. The framer rate is terrible, like 30fps in overworld, but 20 or 15 in battles! The game isn't struggling though, it's just designed that way because this was made for handheld consoles. The frame-rate is tied to the game's performance and baked into the code, so there is no way to fix it without speeding up the gameplay, which is annoying considering this is an Active-Time battle FF game (the enemies will take turns regardless of how long you take to give commands, and it's faster with a higher framerate). I don't understand why so many japanese game devs do this, cripples the longevity of your games.
Buy it on a sale, and hope for a remaster. But that will likely never happen at this rate. Hard to recommend.

A wonderful dose of nostalgia. The 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV manages to stay faithful to the original in terms of story and gameplay, but with a few tweaks that make it more challenging (though still a bit grindy at times).
The graphics are generally fine and give it a fresh look, but they do lose a bit of the old charm — there’s something about the classic sprites that just hits differently.
Still, it’s absolutely worth playing, even if you’ve already finished FF4 in the past. Reliving this timeless story with new visuals and difficulty tweaks is a joy for any fan.
