Honestly this is one of the best old style Assassins Creeds. It does everything Black Flag and 3 does but refined, and faster. The story is great, gameplay is fast, ship combat is faster and more varied. The biggest downside I would say is its length. Definitely doesn’t overstay its welcome, but plot moments come quick once it starts going. The story ties AC3, 4, and a piece of Unity together perfectly.

I really enjoyed the gameplay and the story from Rogue. Continuing off of the mechanics of Black Flag, I found the game did a great job at providing the stuff you used to have from Black Flag earlier. One thing I can definitely love is the fact that the unmarked islands for fragments and chests have boats so you don't have to swim back to your ship Every Single Time.
I did enjoy sailing in warm and cold climates while also freely traversing New York as well.
The story felt great to watch unfold if you are familiar with Altiar, Ezio, Connor, and Edward's stories. It is definitely worth playing if you enjoy the franchise and the story in between Black Flag and 3.

10 out of 10. I really enjoyed this one. The ending was a great surprise. I had started play AC Games with Unity in France and the ending of this game shows what happened to her father in that game. Amazing storytelling and good game length. Not too long.

EN
This game never gets old and the gameplay is different from Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I know it seems useless to have to specify it, but I know that there are many out there who have avoided buying it because they fear repetitiveness and instead Ubisoft has really tried not to repeat it thanks to the division into multiple maps, one of which is just a city, not very big to tell the truth, but intelligently enriched with hitmen ready to attack you as soon as you hear whispers. Also, being a map set in a cold world, you can't stay in the water for long because you risk freezing to death. For the rest, I hate the protagonist because in a childish way he becomes part of the order, but this didn't stop me from having fun anyway and the boardings have a different flavor compared to Black Flag, for better or for worse. Another flaw that comes to mind is that discovering the Abstergo faction is not a twist, you know it from the first game onwards, I thought it was obvious and instead Ubisoft still declares it to you with all the pathos in the world.
IT:
The Definitive Templar Experience?
AC Rogue is often compared with Black Flag, and rightfully so, because many of the game mechanics are quite identical. However, there are still some major differences b/w the two, which is why your best bet would be to play both.
Nevertheless, here's everything that AC Rogue does better and worse than Black Flag:
The Better:
>Story: For the first and only time in the AC series, you get to play as a Templar. Sure, the story here is much shorter and there are more than a few holes in it, whereas Black Flag even seems to follow the classic redemption arc trope that's usually more cathartic.
However, have you stopped to consider that the Assassin's 'Creed' sounds like that of a terrorist organization, and even if their goals were noble, they were doing more harm than good? Probably not, because the Templars are almost always portrayed as one-dimensional evil-doers and the Assassins as heroes.
But, if you're tired of always fighting in favor of chaos, here's a chance to set things right and bring order.
>Outfits: Yes, there's a greater variation between the different outfits you can unlock in Rogue as compared to Black Flag, where most of the 'unlockable' outfits are just lazy reskins. Almost all of these are highly detailed and unique.
>A better ship: The Morrigan is smaller than The Jackdaw, but it's way more maneuverable. It's also got way more firepower, looks absolutely gorgeous, and has the highly efficient puckle guns. In fact, it's often a bit too easy to maneuver.
The Worse:
Naval combat: The Morrigan is clearly a better ship than The Jackdaw, but this also makes naval combat more boring. Part of what makes The Jackdaw so satisfying to maneuver is that it's not too responsive, so you'll always need to plan ahead before every encounter. Besides, the water physics are much better in Black Flag.
Graphics: Rogue seems to be reusing assets from ACIII, which makes sense, but this also makes for a duller looking game world. There's a lot of snow and ice and it's a nice change of scenery, but it's also repetitive. The blizzard effect is cool but it's not as pleasing to look at compared to the thunderstorms in Black Flag. And the rain effect is clearly inferior and looks dated.
The Parkour: I'm assuming this is due to the game's extremely short development cycle (8 months) but parkour in this game is absolute JANK. The pathing seems to be quite broken at places, and Shay is unable to follow what should've been clearly designated pathways.
Unlocking stuff: You barely get to use the stuff you unlock in the game because of how short it is. Unlocking the 11th Century Templar Armor is an absolute pain in the a**. The worst unlockables, however, come from the Naval Campaign minigame. The best sword in the game (Altair's Sword), as well as one of the best outfits, (Admiral Outfit) are locked until you complete the main story, at which point they're completely useless.
What Could've Been...
Rogue would've easily been the best AC game ever if it were given some more time and love. Ubisoft clearly set it up for failure, but the fact that we still have such an amazing game is nothing short of miraculous, and despite the jank and obvious shortcomings, Ubisoft Sofia did an outstanding job.
The story should've been longer; there could've been side missions where you set out to hunt Assassins across the game world, as well as engage in naval combat; the crafting could've been made less tedious, and the unlockables should've been made available earlier.
Overall, a great game if you loved the North American saga and weren't satisfied with Connor's story, or if you simply want to play as a Templar and kill those stupid, reckless Assassins.

Just started playing this after 10 years, and it holds up very well for its age.
If you played Black Flag and loved it, you will enjoy this too, it is very similar of course, but with a new story. Good to see more of Benjamin Franklin.
4 paws up!
I fell over. :P

Now that i have completed Assassin's Creed Rogue 100% on steam i think it's time i make this review. and in my opinion i think Shay's story is right up there with Ezio (But not better then ezio's story since ezio IS assassin's creed, he made the franchise and ubisoft will never write a character as good as him again) but this game is really underrated. and it's sad that it's the least talked about game in the series. which makes no sense to me for rogue is incredibly unique on how it FLIPS the perspective (And the only AC game that does it) we get to play as a templar (And let me just be honest again, i am a little biased on the matter cause i love the templars so much in the franchise) it's always fun to be the bad guys in games!...but wait there is more to that, cause we AREN'T the bad guys! for this game takes the plot style all the way back to AC1 with Altaïr. where it showed that the templars and assassins are two sides of the same coin. (And i love that because in my opinion there is no good or bad guys as a whole with the templars and assassins, just a conflict of ideas) and in this game the assassins are in the wrong. and to experience game through the lens of a templar and not the view of a assassin is just amazing. and i know it will never happen again but i wish we got more of that in this franchise. to see more assassins defect to the templars and why they do it. and thanks to Shay this game will be MY favorite assassin creed's title on the entire series. so in my own opinion this game get's a perfect 10/10! (But if i have to be critical i would have to lower it down to a 8/10 thanks to the ubisoft formula that all their games suffer from)
Uphold the principles of our order and all that for which we stand. Never share our secrets nor divulge the true nature of our work. Do so until death, whatever the cost. This is my new creed. May the Father of Understanding guide us all.
