*Note* I purchased this with my own money, I wish I was fortunate enough to receive free games! TLDR? - I would recommend this game to people who enjoy anime visual novels, especially to those who enjoy enjoy reading dialogue with the occasional mini-game. I think its solid value for a short & sweet session. I just hope more content is added. After a five hour stream, I have now completed Detective School Club. Rather than doing a pros / cons list I thought I would instead share my positives, and opportunities for refining the game further in my opinion. Positives: Story - Short and simple lighthearted fun for anime visual novel lovers. Can be completed in one sitting. Setting - Solid character design + world building. I could easily recognise characters, and enjoyed learning more about the school. I also enjoyed the references to Pokemon & Sherlock Holmes, they didn't feel too forced or out of place. Graphics - Visually pleasing and interactive UI, with some very nice character drawings. Music - Great soundtrack, I genuinely really enjoyed listening to this whilst playing. It set the scene very well. Opportunities: Translation - Some but not all of the dialogue, needed further checking for translations. Whilst I'm not the most literate, some of the dialogue just needed tweaking to be a bit more grammatically correct. Though this became less of an issue the further into the game I got. Also very minor, but I'd suggest that the game launches in English for the first time, just as it's the most common language. Content - This is the big one for me. The game is marketed for the player to solve "cases" implying multiple. So far this game consist of a singular case. Now to his credit, this is Danny Garay's first game, and as a first case I'd say it's a brilliant foundation. I really hope this game is expanded on, as I'd love to see more cases, and see more growth from the characters. There is also room for the story to either stay lighthearted or could spiral into a darker and more nefarious plot (could the school director end up being the ultimate villain? Who knows! But it would be very cool to see that for a climax). Replay-ability - So fair the only reason to repeat this, would be to obtain a better score. However, once you know the answers from the first time around it wouldn't be too difficult. Artwork - Overall I do really like the art style, if I were to nitpick I would say a bit more budget and time to include more detailed backgrounds would help. I feel that the oil painting / blur effect was a little harsh at times. But hey that's subjective and probably just my personal taste. Final thoughts: MORE - Just give me more. Really that about sums it up, I believe if more time was taken to add cases either as a separate DLC as $4 per case I would be fine with. But ultimately I feel if this sold for $25 with a full story, much like the games that inspired this, it could do very well. I won't pretend to know what Danny has planned in the future for this game, but it's certainly one that I would love to see nurtured and succeed. I'd hate for this to go unnoticed, as that work that is there clearly has a lot of love poured into it.

I really like the premise of this game. I do wish we could see the main character, but I understand that visual novels don't tend to show what the main character looks like. I did have issues with the English translation, as some things didn't make sense grammatically, but I got the gist of it. I like the art style and the music. I did get stuck on the School Debate section, specifically the part about the love letter author's characteristics, but that's my own fault. I also got very annoyed with Neil after I solved the first riddle, but again, that's my fault. notes for future me, in case I decide to play this again: if you bring one rabbit, you'll have ___ rabbit in three years clue to author -- #4 in club --> watched locker --> paper and locker four non-melted candles and six melted candles M A R Y H A R R O W M A T H H E L P I'm sad that there weren't more cases. I feel like I'm playing an incomplete game because no more cases :c I liked the interrogation sections. The Incognito Roulette sections.... nope. Especially for the first one? Nah. Obviously I figured them out eventually.
