I don't care how old the game is, this was unacceptable even by 2014 standards. I cannot imagine a single member of the development team played the game for any amount of time. What a shame.

Excessive screen wobble that can't be turned off, made me very motion sick at times

Aah the first attempt at a soulslike. Yeah it's clunky as hell. But there was a time when we played Demon/Dark Souls for the first time and thought "Damn this is the clunkiest game I've ever played". Put the nostalgia goggles on, cut it some slack -> This game goes alright. I enjoyed it quite a bit due to how it links to Lords 2023. 6/10 - Got complete edition for $3 and felt pretty worth Good - Dark souls 1 nostalgia. Complete with maze-like exploration, lack of direction, slow ass swings from everything, stamina empties in 3s, bosses all simple as hell - No blighttown - Can time your melee swings to reduce stamina cost - The heavy armor sets look nutty Bad - Enemies with shields. Way too many and they're all strong - Short, pacing bit rushed - Medium weight rolling sucks - Bonfires don't restore all potions. Feels a little artificial difficulty - Cutscenes are jank - Some early bosses get reskinned to normal mobs endgame - Last boss sucks - Bosses too easy for a souls vet - Runes are undercooked

The combat mechanics are dollar-store dark souls: clunky and slow. The story/setting are actually really cool, but way too short. The quests are confusing and the dialog often fails to explain what's going on.

The devs clearly didn't know the difference between "difficult" and "unfair". The dodging is slow, stamina depletes too quick, and it overall is just hard to grasp.

Great game if you like watching enemies strafe around you with their shield up. That's most of the game.

This game is a hidden gem in the Soulslike genre. It's not very long, but it's incredibly difficult. With the right guides, getting through the game is no problem; everything you need to know can be found on Steam. Even dying isn't a big deal; it happens, and it happens quite often. First, I have to say: If you buy the Game of the Year Edition, you get all the DLC for under €2 during the sale, which is absolutely amazing. Considering the game's age, that's quite fair; there are other publishers who sometimes charge ridiculous prices for outdated games. Graphically, the game doesn't show its age at all; there are worse games that have aged much worse. I didn't find any bugs. It's fun to play; once you get the hang of it, it works. You can also craft, but it's not worth mentioning; it's more of a secondary concern. The visual effects and inventory design really appealed to me. It's obviously quite difficult, and if you're slow with the buttons and slow with your head, this game isn't for you. This is reflected in the overall ratings, which doesn't do the game justice at all. My only criticism is the poor path guidance; I often didn't know where I was supposed to go, which made it a bit tedious. If you've already played Dark Souls and enjoyed it, this is the right game for you. Otherwise, you're better off not playing it; the enemies are merciless.

Lords of the Fallen is a decent Souls-like game that I believe was somewhat overlooked. While it has its fair share of issues and shortcomings that can make players lose interest, I personally had a good experience with it. If you're willing to look past the bugs and certain design flaws, the game as a whole is a respectable entry in the genre. That said, it never quite reaches the heights of top-tier Souls-likes like Dark Souls or Bloodborne. Some of the game's strengths include its solid graphics (even though it was released over a decade ago, it's still visually satisfying), an engaging atmosphere, a reasonably good upgrade system, music, and boss fights. Enemy variety is fairly good, though it could've benefited from more detailed design and behavior to keep encounters more interesting. If you're looking for a Souls-like game to spend time with this summer, I think Lords of the Fallen is a worthwhile option. Final Score: 8.5/10
