This is a very cozy game to play if you don’t mind spending the time in. Definitely the kind of game you wished you had played sooner if you’re finding it later in life. I feel like a changed person after going through the whole Sky series and I’m very happy I got to experience this game the way that I did. Very bulky story, so bring popcorn. Game takes its time developing characters and world building. Even the side characters get a bit of love in this regard. It may be long, but the payoff at the end was well worth it. Game really cares about the characters and it shows. Even the side quests help with developing the story and exploring different sides of characters. Battle mechanics felt hard at first but overall combat is simple enough. Almost to the point where it feels incomplete. Yet there is still strategy that goes into boss battles and some fights will make you work hard for them. I love how the characters can be super animated at times. Seeing the different expressions of the sprites and portraits always makes my day. I especially like Tita’s little victory cheer she does when she gets the last hit. I know pixel graphics aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you can look past it or grew up in the pixel era, I’m sure you’ll enjoy watching the characters. Overall, I give the game a solid 7/10. Not necessarily gonna be for everyone, but any rpg enjoyer will find something to love about this one.
8.5/10 when you realize this game was nothing more than a giant tutorial for what’s to come later. I don’t think an ending to the game has every played me like that before
I wasn't sure I was going to like this, mostly due to me not liking Chained Echoes overall, but I'm glad I picked this up (and the second, and the third game). Some of the controls on keyboard and mouse take a bit to get used to, there's too much dialog even for minor side quests/assignments, and there could be a bit more QoL things implemented; however, the overall game is amazing.

The one that started it all. I accidentally found the "PSP Classic" version back in the day; had no idea what it was but decided to give it a try. Cut to a decade later - I've played every game in the series, and can't get enough. A gem for sure!

The Legend of Heroes: Trials in The Sky (First Chapter) has very quickly taken over my life and also become one of my favourite games played in recent memory. The game does an amazing job in creating a living, breathable world where it is really easy to be emotionally attached and invested in not only the main cast, but the side characters as well. The main story line is heavily engaging, with plot twists and moments where you think you have it all sorted, only for the rug to be pulled out from underneath you. The combat, as someone who is new to the JRPG genre, was tough at first to get my head around. The game does a great job through it's introduction to provide a helpful summary of what you will be expecting for the next 50+ hours of content. Through the prologue, I was able to understand the various systems and find myself enjoying how to maximise the variety of builds available. At fear of being here all day, the game is a beautiful example of a story rich JRPG with fun combat, engaging characters and an exiting world to be invested in. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone seeking an enjoyable experience to lose 50 hours or more into.

Please buy this game. It's one of the best JRPGs I've played in my 43 years on this Earth. Of all the JRPGs I've played, I valued story and characters. This game delivered in spades. That's all you really want from a game, right? And for an actual review, it's a story-driven turn-based JRPG with incredible writing and great characters and story. Once again, buy it.

Trails in the Sky is one of the coziest RPGs I have ever had the pleasure of playing, as well as the first game in a series that has established itself as one of the best to ever do it. This game proves that Falcom truly cares about their characters and the world they build around them, and the result is one of the most heartwarming and yet also heartbreaking stories I've ever experienced in a video game. Along with a unique and fun combat system, this game crafts a world that fills me with an undeniable desire to dive even deeper and remain within the world of Zemuria. Thank God there are so many more of these games to fulfill that desire. If you're on the fence about playing this game, trust me; just do it.

Trails in the Sky, and the "Legend of" series itself, have long been on my radar. For quite a few years, this first entry has sat dormant in my library and it was only until recently that I finally sat down and gave the series a chance. When I first booted up the game I was captured by how charming the visuals were! What started as a short chance quickly turned into a full playthrough and my gateway into the entire series! The visuals, characters, and dialogue are all top-notch and extremely engaging. There is an absolute abundance of NPCs with wholly unique dialogue and small side-stories that are so much fun to invest yourself in. While the main story itself isn't all too crazy or earth-shattering, that is, up until the final chapter, the world and the characters that inhibit it are so enjoyable that you can find yourself getting lost in various Bracer requests and side-stories without even trying! The combat itself is turn-based with just a few tweaks to make it slightly different than other combat systems. Besides a basic attack move, each character has access to Arts and Crafts. Arts are elemental attacks that use EP and are gained through the equipment of various elemental orbments. These orbments can be either purchased through shops in-game or earned as rewards from opening chests and fighting enemies. Crafts are unique abilities specific to each playable character that use CP. CP is earned by attacking enemies with your basic attack and some is gained through the usage of Crafts. Overall, this system is extremely easy to grasp, making it accessible for anyone unfamiliar with turn-based combat while still requiring the player to hold his/her own weight to progress in the game. I played on normal and never found the game to be all too challenging or require any grinding (except for grinding a few levels to prepare for the Grand Arena near the end of the game). If you are looking for a long-term cozy story game or are just a fan of JRPGs, then I would say that this is a MUST PLAY title!

I have absolutely fallen in love with the series and already played most of the other games in the series. This game was extremely fun to play and I enjoy the story just as much as every other game in the legend of heroes series.

In anticipation of the remake, I decided to play the original version first for a basic understanding of the premise and gameplay. What I found was a beautiful and engaging RPG with fun gameplay and character progression, an amazing story and great music. Even the graphics are appealing, despite the age. I highly recommend anyone considering a playthrough of the series to try out this original even after the remake is released. Immerse yourself in the world, talk to everyone you can and learn about Zemuria and the Liberl Kingdom in this first game in a long running series. Can't wait to play the next entry!

Ever wonder what a jrpg can be like where the main character is not a soulless silent husk and instead a fully fleshed character with personality and dialogue? Wonder no longer they did it back in 04
