This game is amazing even by today's standards. That's all I got to say about it. An Oblivion like remaster would see this game rise to the top of the sales charts. What older games lacked in graphical refinements they made up in beautiful art, snappy controls and over the top innovation and imagination.
The sidesscroller genre didn't die, greed hamstrung it.

Awful. Can't navigate the menus on my desktop pc because everything is hypersensitive. Small tap of the analog stick sends the cursor flying in a roulette and I just have to hope it lands on what I'm trying to select. On my Rog Ally X, it won't even recognize the built in controller so it's basically unplayable on that thing unless you bring a separate controller around with you to play just this specific game.

To be completely upfront, I love this game. As an arcade beat 'em up, it's one of the all time classics. If it was just the game design and experience itself, trust that this review would be a thumbs up.
However, on a technical level, buyer beware. Just to get the game running, I had to do some annoying tweaks, disabling steam overlay, etc. My friends, however, have had totally different experiences and have unplayable games. It launches and crashes immediately, and not always the same way, and my fixes didn't work. Fixes online didn't work. We spent hours trying different methods and jumping through different hoops to no avail. My party members, with whom the co-operative aspect is one of Mystara's biggest draws, are left with unplayable games.
And in the process of looking into possible fixes, it became clear that this is not a unique issue that we're having. It seems that this has been an unaddressed issue for ages even since the game's launch. It's disappointing. Because, in complete honesty, I would encourage everyone to play this game. You'd have to be able to play it, though.
