As a pixel heavy retro game, it is so visceral you can almost smell their musk.

Wolfenstein is a classic game anybody would love unless they're a gay zoomer who doesn't like old retro boomer shooter games or are actually a Nazi but ain't much of those no more.

My typical Wolfenstein 3D experience: 1. Start level. 2. Run around, killing any enemies I find. 3. Get lost. 4. Start wall-hugging and mashing 'E' to find any hidden walls. 5. Somehow get even more lost. 6. Finally find path to exit. 7. Get shot and killed by off-screen enemy. 8. Cry.

just as good as my nostalgia remembered.. but also, more difficult both control, and gameplay wise than I was expecting too. 8/10 for being a front runner for fps gameplay

Feels like the first of its kind. Feels as old as me. Super bare bones. Very limited controls and mechanics. Still fun to shoot Nazis for three hours. Doesn't overstay its welcome. Check it out if you're interested in this era. This and DOOM are certainly a good time capsules that quickly demonstrate the roots of the FPS genre.

Wolfenstein 3D is a gaming historical classic, and it should be treated with such respect. But In terms of the game itself? its ok, it has aged somewhat poorly, especially in the terms of level design and how repetitive they can feel, one after another. again its not bad, but even for a game like og doom, that game hasnt aged a bit and if anything its still getting re-releases and updates, same with quake 1 and 2, they also got remakes and re-releases that fixed some isssues, modernized graphics and overall tightened the game up for better performance. but wolfenstein 3d (and basically the rest of the franchise) kinda just seems to be an after thought to id software and more of a side thing, compared to their precious doom and quake childs. You can tell the lack of care since this game is still only running on DOS, and while dos isnt bad and works fine and gets the job done; a unity version honsetly wouldnt be bad, have extra content, hell give us a new batch of levels like how you did with dooms legacy of rust expansion. again the game itself is. at its core: good. but for an almost 30 year old game as important as wolf 3d, there needs to be SOMETHING involving a remake, or remaster, or something to keep this game afloat, bc honsetly dos has flaws, like how some times the dos launches the game in monochrome, or how sometimes it just crashes, or how you still have to manually use wolfenstiens old controls like moving your mouse forward to go front and back, which is annoying. i feel like a re-release could fix all of these issues, and thats exactly what doom got, and hey; doom got a unity version AND got to keep its dos version for old school players: and new school players to get introduced to doom. hell, thats how i got into doom, through dooms re-release on the nintendo switch back in 2020, i was able to experience this great game and now i fucking love doom. And i feel like wolf 3d could use the same treatment (same goes for return for castle wolfenstein) its not the end of the world, but i know wolfenstein fans want SOME thing new, especially since the newer games have been hit or miss imo

Wolfenstein 3D. A great game with a huge legacy. I'm not going into that. This will just be a simple review of the game itself. Firstly, get a sourceport. It helps the playability of the game a lot. It adds true 3D graphics, better mouse controls, strafing and an automap. Ok, now for the review. Wolfenstein 3D is simple. Really simple. You have 4 weapons, about 7 enemies total and six bosses. That is used over 60 levels in maze like levels for you to solve and find the exit in. That's it. The first three episodes are the best. The levels aren't too mazey and the enemies are placed in a more balanced way. The last 3 episodes are much more maze like. Each episode starts you off with a knife and pistol. You get ammo and health from pickups. You can get n machinegun and a chaingun. Each weapons is a flat upgrade over the previous one. You never have a reason to go back. Sometimes doors are lockd and requires keycards. And that's pretty much the game. Get weapons and ammo, go though mazey levels, get keycards, shoot Nazi's and get to the boss level. It's very basic and repetitive but I love it. It's so much fun. I'd recommend it.
