> buy stupidly expensive silicon > tell myself I'm "future-proofing" > immediately open 3DMark > stare at average scores for my hardware > decide average isn't good enough > pump dangerous amounts of voltage into CPU/GPU > room now feels like a sauna > ignore system warnings, push harder > 200MHz extra, instability incoming > "benchmark crashed," restart, try again > finally edge out average score by 0.1% > screenshot immediately, brag to strangers online > validation.png is the pinnacle of my existence > realize I've spent hours achieving basically nothing > do it all again tomorrow Thanks, 3DMark.

I have love 3dMark since first using 3dMark 06. I check my systems to see if they are still performing well over time. And since they keep my scores in the data base, I can easily compare systems and scores. Really enjoy it and while I am not breaking any records, its a great to see how your system will perform.

Okay, statement retracted, looks like stress tests aren't pay gated. If this is the case then I would easily recommend this tool.

This isn’t a game. It’s a self-esteem destroyer for your PC. I downloaded 3DMark to test my shiny new GPU. Five minutes later, my fans were screaming, my PC was glowing like Chernobyl, and my ego was in shambles. The benchmark finished and said my score was “adequate for PowerPoint.” Let me walk you through the experience: Click “Run Benchmark” PC begins to sound like it’s preparing for liftoff An alien mech moonwalks through fire in 8K ray tracing while my framerate drops to single digits GPU hits 85°C, CPU begs for mercy Final result: “Your system is fine, for 2016.” Me: staring at $2000 worth of hardware in shame It’s like a fitness test, but instead of running a mile, your PC gets drop-kicked by future technology and then graded by a judgmental robot. Also, nothing humbles you faster than seeing your score compared to "Top 1% of Users" whose PCs apparently run on dark matter and vengeance. 💔 No heretics were purged. Only my hopes and dreams. 📉 10/10 would benchmark and spiral into a hardware upgrade again.

3DMark is one of the most widely recognized benchmarking tools on Steam, developed by UL Solutions and used by gamers, PC enthusiasts, and hardware reviewers alike. It offers a comprehensive suite of tests designed to evaluate the performance of your PC’s GPU and CPU across various workloads, from gaming to ray tracing to system stability. With a clean, data-driven interface and consistent updates that keep it relevant to current hardware generations, 3DMark is more than just a benchmark—it's a versatile tool for anyone looking to measure, compare, or stress test their system. One of the key strengths of 3DMark lies in its modular design. Rather than relying on a single test to define performance, the software includes a wide array of benchmarks such as Time Spy, Fire Strike, Port Royal, and Speed Way. Each of these targets different hardware capabilities—Time Spy is tailored for DirectX 12, Fire Strike for DirectX 11, and Port Royal focuses on ray tracing. There are also CPU-specific benchmarks, storage benchmarks, and even tests designed for mobile devices or entry-level systems. This variety allows users to tailor their benchmarking experience depending on their system specs and what kind of performance they want to analyze. Beyond the benchmarks themselves, 3DMark offers detailed performance analysis. After each test, users receive a numerical score that represents how their system performed, as well as frame rate charts, temperature graphs, and system comparisons to similar hardware configurations around the world. These global comparisons are incredibly useful for identifying whether a component is underperforming due to thermal issues, power limitations, or other bottlenecks. For overclockers, 3DMark is an essential tool to test system stability after tuning, as it can reveal crashes or performance anomalies under synthetic stress. In terms of usability, 3DMark is accessible to both beginners and advanced users. The tests are launched with just a few clicks, and the results are presented in a clean, graphical format. For users who want deeper insight, advanced options are available, such as custom runs, looped stress testing, and command-line control. The UI is fast, responsive, and regularly updated to support the latest GPUs, CPUs, and API advancements. UL Solutions has a strong track record of rolling out new tests shortly after major GPU launches, which ensures that the tool remains relevant even as the hardware landscape changes rapidly. However, 3DMark is not without its limitations. While the base software includes several core tests, many of the more advanced or specialized benchmarks are locked behind paid DLCs. This can be frustrating for users who expect a full suite of tests out of the box. For example, benchmarks like Port Royal (ray tracing), Speed Way (DirectX 12 Ultimate), or Solar Bay (mobile testing) require additional purchases. Though the pricing is reasonable for enthusiasts, it creates a segmented experience that may not appeal to casual users who just want a one-click benchmark solution. Another point to consider is that, like any synthetic benchmark, 3DMark doesn’t perfectly replicate real-world gaming performance. The tests are highly controlled and optimized to push specific aspects of your hardware, which can make the results feel disconnected from how your system performs in actual games. That said, 3DMark scores are still a valuable reference, especially when comparing hardware across generations or identifying performance issues that might be invisible during casual gameplay. In conclusion, 3DMark is a powerful and highly respected benchmarking suite that has earned its place as a go-to utility for PC performance testing. Its depth, flexibility, and professional-level reporting make it ideal for enthusiasts, overclockers, and hardware reviewers. While the DLC structure and synthetic nature of its tests may not be perfect for everyone, the base package still offers enough value to justify its place in any serious user’s software library. Whether you're building a new rig, testing a GPU upgrade, or fine-tuning for maximum performance, 3DMark provides the tools and insights needed to get the most out of your hardware. Rating: 9/10

The best benchmark program available directly on Steam. The results are saved directly to 3DMark online, so you can start a comparison test with your next gaming setup. The overlay is also very good. Your PC will go on a magical sauna experience. He will suffer.
