Its like FTL, with a Stellaris skin and an intuitive/competent VR interface. you're managing a battlespace from a fixed perspective, so its not like sitting on the bridge, but its still a fun little game.

Played it for a few hours in one sitting since buying it. I’d still be playing now if I didn’t get dragged out to go shopping with the other half. Gameplay is fun and challenging in places. Reminds me of FTL but without the crew. Nice to see the many Stellaris assets and references. I’m enjoying the upgrades both run and permanent. This might be my new go to game when I don’t want to play anything too heavy.

Ghost Signal is a good example of a basic rogue-lite formula implemented well. There's not that much to each run, but the core gameplay loop is fun and engaging and each ship and run offers just enough challenge and variety to keep you coming back. The VR controls, look and feel are very well implemented. The backdrops look amazing in VR, and the ship controls handle well with the motion controllers. I played it via link cable using Quest 3 and have really enjoyed my time here. A steal at the price it was recently on sale for.

Ghost Signal remind me heavily of Everspace, the first one, but played as a real time strategy game. The base structure is as sectors with randomized events and encounters, with progression for the single run and also a meta progression as currency that you can spend in a tree to upgrade the single ships (there are more than one, each with very different playstyle), or more generic/macro upgrades for every next run. There is also some focus on story and lore. Story and more progression gets unlocked by beating the game with run modifiers, like adding more stages and difficulties to bosses. The trailer or the photos i think don't give justice to the game, initially by those i thought was a very simplistic game, but the more i play the more i find new features.

I believe that the longer you play VR games, the more you realize how rare truly novel experiences are on the platform. Ghost Signal is a game that struck me as being unique and novel enough that I recommend it. The trailers and marketing for this game don't really do it very much justice, but it's got a lot of interesting things going for it.
