Watchmen: The End Is Nigh has a great classical comic atmosphere. The comic-style cutscenes, combos and dialogue greatly contribute to this atmosphere. Additionally, the graphics are pretty good for a game of its age, and the collectables throughout the game provide a nice short break from the main storyline.
However, the gameplay does become repetitive quickly, mainly consisting of brawls with opposing gangs. Furthermore, there are no Steam achievements for this game, which is a shame.
If you enjoy simple gameplay and a good storyline line, this game is for you.

Playing through the first mission to get the time to make a review was like a pure nostalgia trip. I've already completed the two watchmen games but playing again in high def, 60fps was a blast. less than 3 bucks for both sure helped.
it's a really good old 2000s beat em up set in the watchmen universe before the comics and the movie (mostly anyways). It follows Rorschach and Nite Owl hunting a criminal mob boss with some sweet beat em up action. it controls well, even on mouse and keyboard which surprised me and the combat is simple enough to understand with enough variation and moves to not be a drag.
I also still love how Nite Owl and Rorschach play differently, with the former being more of a gadget based brawler and the latter being a pure fist to face punch fest. Nite Owl uses his gadgets to stun, knock down etc and he's pretty fun to play as while Rorschach is just pure beat em up style.
the ai partner is very welcome, especially in a beat em up (seriously, why don't more games give you a bot to help out when you're raging it up on the streets. haha) and also surprisingly competent. the only issue it has is that if you start fighting the target it's picked, it won't do anything until it gets attacked or you switch to another but the game throws enough enemies at you for that to be a non issue 99% of the time. I'll also never get sick of seeing the Rorschach bot charge his wait into a group of baddies, knocking them all down. same with Nite Owl's hilarious block finisher where he slams a dude skull first into the ground then gives him a little pat before getting up and leaving the poor dude lying there.
the cutscenes are drawn and animated like you're reading a comic book. the voice acting is top notch for everyone and the actor for movie Rorschach, Jackie Earle Haley, voices him in the game too, which is sweet!
all in all, fun little two beat em up games. they're dripping with xbox 360 nostalgia style and they're super fun. go play em.

Pretty much babies first Arkham it's super simple but I enjoyed the combat, story, and voice acting. Clearly a low budget tie in game for the watchmen series but it's really well done surprisingly.

Not familiar with the world of Watchmen but this is a pretty fun brooding beat em up told through simple comic book style cutscenes/storyline. Highly recommend, get both on sale although the price isn’t bad regardless.

Surprisingly fun, no where near as good as Arkham City but the combat is versatile enough where you can have some mindless fun and graphics still hold up, especially when you run it at 4k. It does get a bit repetitive but the atmosphere and fighting choreography makes up for that. Honestly it made me realise how cool a modern day Watchmen game could be if done justice by the right team

Raining again tonight. Raining a lot lately. Like Heaven is trying hard to wash away all of New York’s sins. Waste of time. Steel wool couldn’t scour clean this city’s soul.

Review of Watchmen: The End is Nigh (Part 1 and 2):
The Watchmen universe has massive potential for a video game adaptation. With its gritty world, morally complex characters like Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan, and a deeply philosophical narrative, it is a franchise just waiting for the right developer to do it justice.
So, does The End is Nigh live up to that potential? Not really, but it is not a complete failure either.
Presentation and Atmosphere:
Visually, The End is Nigh still looks quite decent considering the time it was released. The dark and dirty tone of the Watchmen world is captured well through its level design, even if most of the environments are linear and somewhat repetitive. Occasionally, stylized comic-book-style cutscenes appear, which fit the overall presentation and help maintain the Watchmen aesthetic.
A notable strength is the use of voice actors from the movie, which adds authenticity and helps bring the characters to life for fans.
Gameplay:
At its core, the game is a classic beat-em-up. Players move from one room to the next, taking out waves of enemies using basic attacks, finishers, and a few special moves. While new abilities can be unlocked, the gameplay does not evolve much and quickly becomes repetitive. However, the relatively short playtime of just a few hours prevents it from becoming truly tiresome.
The game can be played alone or in local co-op, which is actually quite fun. The controls are actually not that clunky, which is better than expected for a game like this.
Rorschach and Nite Owl complement each other well during gameplay. Nite Owl plays more like a tank, while Rorschach is faster and deals more damage. Some environmental interactions are specific to one character, adding a bit of variety to the otherwise simple level design.
Characters and Dialogue:
The conversations between Rorschach and Nite Owl are enjoyable, especially for fans of the source material. Although the writing never reaches the depth or nuance of the comics or the movie, the contrast between the two characters makes their exchanges entertaining.
Part 2 improves on this with better dialogue and more natural interactions between the characters.
Story and Structure:
This is where the game struggles the most. The End is Nigh is split into two episodes. Part 1 ends abruptly with no real conclusion, and Part 2 does not directly continue the narrative. This lack of a cohesive story is frustrating, and to this day there has been no explanation from the developers or Warner Bros. regarding the split or the intended direction of the story.
If inconsistent storytelling bothers you, it is probably better to skip Part 1 entirely and play only Part 2. It feels more complete on its own, features more enemy types, improved pacing, and smoother combat. It also avoids the unresolved cliffhanger that ends the first episode.
In fact, the game might have been better received if only Part 2 had been released as a standalone title. Compared to it, Part 1 has very little to offer beyond some comic-style cutscenes and minor character comments.
This review is meant to make that difference clear for anyone deciding whether to play Part 1 or Part 2.
Final Verdict:
Watchmen: The End is Nigh is not a great game, but it is not terrible either. It is a fairly simple and occasionally entertaining beat-em-up that will mostly appeal to fans of the franchise. If you enjoy the characters and can overlook the repetitive combat and underwhelming story, this can be an okay experience and a decent way to revisit the Watchmen universe in game form.
Would I recommend it to someone who is not already a fan, or to a casual gamer today? No. There are simply too many better alternatives on the modern gaming market.
But for fans of Watchmen, it can still be a fun diversion. Thanks to the chapter system, it is better played in short sessions rather than all at once.
Personally, I found it to be a decent but flawed experience that entertained me for a few hours. It reminded me how much untapped potential this franchise has in the world of gaming. Watchmen truly deserves a high-quality adaptation someday, ideally on the same level as the Arkham series.
