Don't play RF2. Play this. It's superior in every way. Also, download Dash Faction patch, it will make your life way easier. Great game, as good as I remember.
Railgun dudes suck tho.

I finally did it it took what felt like eternity to beat this it was probably the most miserable time I have had playing a video game in a while decent game for what it is but the some of the design choices in this game are definitely questionable and the map destruction is underutilized and I would not recommend this over quake series or half life

Score: 3/5* (sounds like I would have lowered it a point if I had played to completion)
Gameplay, gunplay, controls, saving, sound effects, voice acting, and enemy AI are all good.
Graphics and story-line/setting are average, but visual aesthetics have aged pretty well. No major technical issues or game-breaking bugs, just a few environmental hit-boxes being larger than their model suggests.
I quit this game twice: once when it was new and once when it was outdated (2025) with little-to-no nostalgia. It stops being fun a few hours in, and I didn't even get to the part that most negative reviews described as the bad part/half of the game.
First few hours were fun though, before grinding to a halt about halfway through the story (2 hours in, assuming the later chapters are about the same length as the earlier chapters). You get vague instructions for a set of 5 objectives in close proximity to one another. Used up most of my resources with multiple reloaded saves because it wasn't clear what objective I had missed and/or how I was supposed to complete one or more objectives. No pun intended: this section and lack of clear direction/instructions destroyed my immersion/engagement with the story/setting and lead me to use (the small number of) console commands to tackle the key marketed feature of the game.
I began limit testing the permanent environmental destruction.
It was a very interesting and new technological innovation for Red Faction's release, but it's just disappointing decades later. It is rarely used for engaging exploration or clever ways to solve (or get around) puzzles. Many of the materials are indestructible, including the rock "wall" at the edges (including the top) of a level's environment: I think each level is a large cube of rock/stone with the level "dug out" by the level designers and then stuff like walls/floors/ceilings/pipes/buildings/furniture/NPCs are placed within the dug out spaces.
I digress. The game simply isn't designed to let you use its featured, brand-spanking-new mechanic in interesting ways. There are clear markers/signs (visual or vocally described by a VA) that you are supposed to explore somewhere or open a new pathway by blowing up a very specific part of the environment, and are really wasting your time trying explosives on any unmarked places, even with ammo cheats enabled.

It may be a super old game but trust me, you do not want to miss out on Red Faction. It plays and feels a lot like Half Life to the point I had to look up if Red Faction was a Source game or not. Either way Red Faction is an easy 8/10 for me, the only problem I have with the game is the difficulty spike at the end. Otherwise I highly recommend you don't miss out on this old gem

Still worth playing after decades, only thing is that there are bugs that makes the game unplayable, so be sure to download Dash faction to fix these problems

Great classic early 2000s Action Shooter in a great setting, taking place in corporate-colonized Mars. One of those games my older brother had on the PS2, so there's a lot of nostalgia. Only downside about this version is I can't figure out how to do local multiplayer with bots as the map variety is insane.

I played this to death on PS2 back in the day, the world deformation was top notch for it's time and playing 1V1 splitscreen turning the maps into a hellscape of tunnels was so much fun!
