A fun, nostalgic pixel shooter game that had a catchy sound track.
There were a few things that made it frustrating though.
1) I was constantly fighting the character's momentum, and it made it annoying for precision platforming and battling some bosses like Monster X.
2) Getting hard locked out of certain endings due to getting the booster early or not.
3) Not being able to choose save slots when saving mid game, which would make it easier to avoid getting hard locked. I don't want to wast 4 hours redoing the game again just to get to the point where I can make a choice to get the boosters early again.

I originally bought this on the Wii Shop Channel back when I was about 10 and could never beat it. So finally beating the game today, 15 or so years later, was surreal to say the least. All I'll say is that it's a beautiful story with really compelling and sometimes really challenging gameplay, and I'm really glad yet somewhat sad to have finally finished it after so long. Highly recommend, play it as soon as you can.

Amazing. Best game ever. I grew up playing it on the wii. I decided to buy it to relive some of those memories, and it did not disappoint. I only have 44 steam hour, but there will be hundreds more coming. 10/10 great buy.

After playing this game I reached such a level of autism that every time someone mentions a indie game, I respond of whether it is a "Cave Story" or an "Earthbound." I do not tell anyone what the criteria is, I just insert it into the conversation. Minecraft is a Cave Story. Five Nights at Freddy's is an Earthbound. Undertale is an Earthbound, despite taking place underground/in a cave. Sally Face is a Cave Story. I could go on forever.
