VALKYRIE ELYSIUM Reviews
Long ago, Ragnarok—the End Times—loomed upon the realms. The All-Father Odin, with the last of his strength, created an emissary of redemption, Valkyrie; her sole task being the salvation of a doomed world.

I didn't go into this game expecting very much, and make no mistake, I'm disappointed, but I think it's a little bit better than I was scared it was going to be.
The problem is, Valkyrie Profile has a cult following. I don't think it's the kind of game with mass appeal. I think they have tried to broaden the appeal by turning it into a hack and slash. As a hack and slash it's ok, but as an action rpg it's pretty awful and I think all they have done is alienate the fans they had. I don't think this new formula is winning anyone over.
In previous Valkyrie Profile games you play as a named valkyrie, an interesting character with a backstory and a fairly interesting story. In Valkyrie Elysium you play as a nameless valkyrie and the story isn't very interesting at all.
Having said that the game does have mechanics unique to the Valkyrie Profile games such as breaking enemies and the einherjar and spells I recognise. It's a little nostalgic which I like, but it's a big shame this is the direction Valkyrie Profile went.

Game is bland, uninspired, and boring. As if Square Enix just gave the team a bunch of checkboxes and the development team just adhered to it with no passion or vision put into it.
Combat is bad, camera is bad, maps are bad, dialogue and story are bad, non-existent world-building, lore built on generic Greek mythology.
Even a 50% discount is not worth to pick this game up. Playing Chapter 1 basically means you have played the entire game out. There is no "wow factor", no awe-inspiring moments, no achievement or skill to be had.
Combat is just button-mashing mess and there is no skill involved in this game. The combat is a complete, absolute mess and are more stat-checks than skill checks.
The more I play this game, the more pissed off I get at how bland, uninspired, and shitty the gameplay is. I would give this a VERY NEGATIVE review if I could. Absolute trash-tier garbage.
If you are looking to buy this game for its story, cinematics, or cutscenes, I would advise you to be sorely disappointed in your expectations as there are abyssmally low amounts of voice-acting and cutscenes. Here is the story. I will just spoil it for you.
1. Go fight 4 bosses that will turn into companions
2. Go find 4 McGuffins for Odin
3. PLOT TWIST - Good is actually EVIL!!!
4. Valkyrie learns to be more humanlike and less robotic from her very limited experiences with the companions.
Enemy types:
There are only 6 enemy types in this game.
Normal/Poison Lantern Undead, Archer/Shield Soldier Undead, Fire/Electric/Water Elementals, Squids, Fire/Ice/Dark Drakes. And Hilde. Absolutely pathetic.
Skill Trees:
There are no Skill Trees. Its a dang Skill Pole with only 1, sometimes 2, lines streaking downwards. Just get everything because there is no customisation of any sort.
Spells:
There are only 8 spells. One for each element (except Fire). Higher levels of the spells DO NOT add anything special nor have ANY special effects.
Heal, Fire Lance, Fire Storm, Ice Bolt, Chain Lightning, Group-Grab, Holy Lance Pierce, Dark Ground Attack.
This is a 3/10 game if you strip away the Valkyrie brand on it.
