Witches of the Fourth 1v1, perhaps better known by its alternative title, The Hollows Chapter 1, was a unique and engaging multiplayer experience that I believe will seldom be replicated by the games industry in the years to come. Like it is so often in real life, many actions in the game will spontaneously and unpredictably lead to a quick death. Upon death, both players are prompted to choose between the two heroines, Hex and Jinix, this binary dichotomy presents a degree of certainty and familiarity while also serving as a likely allusion to the classic parable of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The game's movement systems are matched by few other multiplayer shooters. The teleport system, which allows characters to cross entire maps in a single blink, is unfettered by restrictive elements such as a distance limit or cooldown which may have been included in lesser titles. The character's attack moves are rapid-fire but inconsistently damaging, sometimes serving to slay the enemy in a single hit while barely touching the HP bar in another. This element of randomness allows for dynamic and interesting gameplay to evolve as a session goes on. The maps of the game, while similar in aesthetic, all have gameplay gimmicks and striking layouts that ensure that gameplay never becomes dull. All in all, Witches of the Fourth is not a game for everyone; the dull-minded, slow-witted, or otherwise intellectually or physically inept will be unable to appreciate this game in its full magnitude, but Fareed Flgaming's offering to the 1v1 arena shooter genre is sure to please the most hardcore of competitive gamers out there.
