It's fun for the first part of it you get to feel like how you felt playing the old Budokai tenkaichi series. where the dlc are causing the problem is they are adding in things people would much rather not want. We got a character from a mobile game in which the story of it is bleh and I'm sorry but the character itself is if you gave goku some saiyan armor and his memory problem was only forgetting his family member. when they could have been going for more characters from the movies that they had like example A you're missing coolers squadron, or Slugs henchmen, Giant metal cooler, ect... Bandai if you want to make the community happy do dragon ball series stuff not mobile. no one gives a shit about a mobile character except for the youtubers who use to make videos with him. You youtubers know who you are for overhyping a literal 1 character drop of nothing (ryhme, seereax, doto, the gang, nano, ect...) that dlc gave nothing but 1 basic move list character. You give us capability of making scenarios and theme's yet rob them of the characters they could use for characters that aren't relavant to the story. If I wanted to play a mobile dragon ball game I would be but I'm not.

I had high hopes for this game, and I really tried, but this is just a hard 'nope' from me, I'm afraid. I know the common response is 'get good' to a game like this, but that's the problem: I don't even care to take the time to.
The game is horribly unbalanced for single player play, with the AI routinely pulling moves that shouldn't be possible and locking you into combos that - while the AI can gleefully escape any combo - you will not be able to no matter what buttons you press or how you time them to block/dodge/etc.
For a number of fights, the only way to win is to cheese the AI in ways it can't cope with, such as going directly above great ape Vegeta to attack from an angle the AI can't comprehend. Otherwise, you're condemned to getting mauled in a no-win fight. I've lost count of how many times I attacked an enemy from behind and they magically blocked it despite the game clearly explaining this isn't possible. Well, it isn't possible for you, the player, but for the AI it's as easy as anything else.
I can only assume this game is better in a PvP mode where the ridiculous AI isn't a factor, but frankly after having the AI go nuts on me so many times, locking me into combos I cannot get out of, and interrupting every. single. combo. I attempt to perform, I'm just over it.
Sure, I'm sure there are some people that can cope with this, or that will watch videos on internet to teach them how to cheese through fights to progress, but I'm not one of them. If the game is such a misbalanced mess that just playing it normally is an unrelenting headache, then you can just keep it.
It's a bummer, but this game is a nope. If you're a fan of DBZ but not a fighting game savant, steer clear of this one. The fun moments will be greatly overshadowed by the multitude painfully irritating ones.
End rant.

Backshot simulator, abandoned by bandai, and a waste of money. Obviously a cash grab because there's been barely any new content, and no fixes to competitive that seem to be worth while. Barely even fun with friends because if any character happens to have a move or skillset that's completely busted, it makes playing with the "large cast" of characters meaningless. Can't go into ranked because getting out of infinite combos is reliant either on choosing a character who has explosive wave, or doing the RNG, wifi based super counter that works literally 1/3 the time or is activated when spamming. Fuck bandai for hyping this shit up when they knew they were going to abandon it and keep releasing content for Xenoverse 2 just so they can make more money.

This game is good. I just wish that we had a roadmap or clear plan for when updates are coming because it feels like it can take a while for not much.
Also, GIVE ME MORE OF VEGETA'S STORY! And more story in general. Seriously, why does Vegeta's story end at the Buu saga and Piccolo have next to nothing? I'd love for more story.

I’ve put in about three full days of playtime into Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, and while there’s a lot to enjoy, it also leaves me wanting more. I’m currently C1 in ranked, and although I’ve only been doing online for a few days (don’t judge), I’ve played enough to get a solid feel for the game’s strengths and what it still lacks.
Combat is the standout here. The game play is fast, responsive, and visually stunning. It feels powerful and dynamic—exactly what you’d expect from a Dragon Ball fighter. Beam clashes, teleport counters, and ultimates all land with serious impact, and the controls are surprisingly intuitive once you get used to the system.
However, the game lacks long-term content. Within just a few days, I was able to unlock almost every character in the shop. That might sound like a good thing, but it really highlights how little there is to work toward. Many of the characters are small variations of each other, and once you understand how the in-game currency works, you’ll have the full roster filled up pretty quickly. The grind just doesn’t last long, and that hurts replay value.
I also picked up the Gohan Beast DLC, which adds a few extra characters, and they’re fun to use. But again, outside of the characters themselves, there’s not much else included—no new stages, missions, or extra gameplay content. The characters are cool, but for a paid DLC pack, it still feels a bit light. I would’ve liked to see more effort in making the DLC feel like a bigger expansion to the game, rather than just a roster boost.
The story mode (Episodes of Dragon Ball) is solid and well-presented at first glance. It covers both original and "what-if" scenarios, which is great for fans who want to relive or remix iconic moments. But you can get through it very quickly, and unfortunately, the cutscenes feel underwhelming compared to the actual gameplay. They often lack the same energy and polish, which makes the story mode feel more like a side feature than a core part of the game. Once you've finished it and unlocked most of the roster, you’re mostly left with ranked or local versus. There’s no real progression system or meaningful offline content to keep players engaged for the long term.
All in all, Sparking! ZERO is a beautiful game with excellent mechanics and high production value, but it’s still missing depth. More characters, more game modes, and better DLC value would go a long way. Right now, it’s a fun experience that feels like a great starting point, but not quite the full package yet. Here’s hoping future updates take it to the next level.

Why are there 4 (maybe more) different ways to counter attacks...The skill floor on this game is way too high for me, that or I just can't get the mechanics in my head. Anytime I fight in online it feels like I'm in an actual dragon ball fight, except I'm Tien going against UI Goku.

Fun to play with friends local split-screen. Neither of us are very good so it's just button mashing and a dream
