I've been keeping this game in the backlogs for a long while. To keep things short, I think the game is okay. It's not bad but it's not particularly great. Update: The game still is buggy in some parts like how
killing Death before getting Daedalus to read a Black Book will softlock you from getting some exclusive spells
. Thank the developer for having an official save editor for this game, otherwise I would've quit right then and there. The game is a dungeon crawler with plenty of hidden secrets and areas to explore. Each area feels unique and has their own atmosphere made even better by the soundtrack to fit the vibes. I really love the weapon leveling system which encourages the player to try out different weapons to see what cool upgrades they will have. My personal favorite is the broken sword hilt which transforms into a fiery light-saber weapon to make the pain of grinding absolutely worth it. What really let my enjoyment diminish was the gameplay loop which can be reduced to blocking/circling enemies while charging up your attack. It's not very exciting and challenging to say the least. I'd let it slide if it weren't for the fact that the hitboxes feel very janky. Another complaint I have is how few in shortcuts back to the crystal checkpoints are, there will be long stretches of walking between a checkpoint and exploring. If you die in-between without saving then you've lost a lot of progress, this is a non-issue unless you're at
the mausoleum where Death chases you if you stay too long until you warp out
. This is me being salty about dying a few times without saving by the way. Anyway, still a decent game but unless you invest heavily into Speed (and maybe Dexerity) to make travel & exploring faster, it'll wear on you halfway.

Lunacid is a weird little gem if you're into old-school dungeon crawlers. The graphics land somewhere between PS1 and PS2, and yeah, they’re janky in the best way. Super moody and atmospheric, fits the tone of the game perfectly. Every area feels like it came out of a strange dream. The filters are a cool touch too if you wanna lean harder into that retro vibe. The soundtrack is great. Some areas have that classic PS1-style ambience, others go full early 2000s electronic. It’s a mix that shouldn’t work, but it does. Definitely helps set the mood. Combat at the start can feel rough. Enemies hit hard, and healing’s limited, so it feels kinda one-sided early on. But honestly, that’s what makes it feel like King’s Field. Slow, methodical, and rewarding once it clicks. Exploration is where the game really shines. Poking around usually leads to something good. You’re encouraged to try weird paths, and most of the time, it pays off. Different classes feel like they actually matter too. I went full mage and had a blast, but you can dump your stats into dex or strength and still clear everything just fine. There’s a decent variety of weapons and spells. Nothing feels too broken or useless. You can play however you want and make it work. It’s flexible without being easy. Framerate caps like 17, 20, 24, 30 FPS are a really nice touch. Sounds dumb on paper, but it adds to the old-school feel if you're into that kind of thing. Game even has multiple endings now, which gives it some more time to be completed. And yeah-- sometimes it gets real spooky. Like, “something’s-watching-me” spooky. I appreciated that. If you grew up on King's Field or just like weird, atmospheric dungeon crawlers, Lunacid’s absolutely worth your time.

Might be weird to read, but the exploration in this game is something I've been missing since DS2. The devs for Lunacid captured something I don't think Fromsoft does anymore. Highly recommend, something this polished isn't common and it's just a good experience all around.

Fascinating, fantastic world with a small but memorable cast of characters. First-person fighting is fun and fair, but it's frightfully easy to become overpowered if you know what to find. The walls are your friends. Exploration is duly rewarded with unique weapons and spells, most of which are good. The random enemy drops are mostly not worth it unless you want the achievement, like I did. Some items don't do anything yet. Slightly bug-prone, but nothing game-breaking. £12 may be a little much for what you're buying, so wait for a sale if you're unsure

This game has nothing bad about it, if you like dungeon crawlers, dark fantasy stories, spells and swordfighting. Wow. I was blown away by this game, it captivated me with it's creativity despite keeping it simple. You know, it just shows that you don't need the best high tech graphics or a bunch of fluff to make an amazing game. I loved the experience of playing Lunacid. Highly recommend.

You can be a left handed skeleton beating up snails. In all honesty though it's a great game if you like to explore, find secrets and do things at your own pace. Also the music is really good!

A tremendous first-person RPG. The vibe is immaculate and perfectly encapsulates the era of gaming it strives to. Thematically appropriate and quality music can be found throughout every part of this game - there's not a single bad, ear-grating or unfitting song. I love that the visual quality is as you'd expect from what the game was inspired by, but doesn't try to match them to a visually sickening degree - it's clear this game is modern and distinct, but suitably and respectfully captures that "old" essence. There's lots of weapons and magics to come across hidden throughout the game, pushing you to explore (and find secrets) so that you can grow your arsenal alongside your ability points (which have more thought put into them than most RPGs) wherein each point has multiple applications outside of it's primary stat. My only complaint is how some of the secrets (mostly important ones) are SO hidden that you have no hope in 100%ing the game without help from the internet. I got what I thought to be quite a lot of them, only to come to the sinking realisation that there were many, many more. Lastly, endings tie the narrative together nicely. Like a pretty cherry on a cake. Highly recommended if you're looking to try an "old-like" RPG without suffering through what that would actually entail, or to try something new with an interesting story and setting. Otherwise, still recommended, just take your time with it and go with the vibe.

Amazing game, you can really feel the passion from the dev. The music and atmosphere are amazing, the characters are memorable and quirky and the story made 0 sense, truly a banger. If you like Castlevania you'll be right at home. The only flaw I see is the lack of a map, I guess it was something against the devs vision for the game but I think even as an optional feature it would have been nice.

A love letter to old dungeon crawlers. I got into Lunacid not knowing what to expect and I was hooked from start to finish, this game has a lot of soul and very rich exploration with a lot of eerie environments that portrait desolation along the entire journey. The soundtracks are quite exquisite and they help perfectly with the immersion. Exploring was the best part, encountering different hidden secrets in different labyrinths gives a really good feel of being rewarded. You can literally spend hours finding new hidden passages, secrets and solving puzzles. An amazing dark fantasy experience. Oh and the game uses real life moon phases, keep that info as you wish hehe. ✧⊱༒︎༺ If you liked my review and want to know what other games I play and review, check my Curator page Cosmic Nest ༻༒︎⊰✧

Getting lost in a video game isn't negative. Not in the sense that this game gave me. I had figured that the whimsy I got from playing games of my childhood was gone, that my maturity let me no longer look at another world and take it in. This game brought me back to my senses in how amazing it felt to explore, uncover, look, listen and find thing. This game is beautiful and proves art style and passion mage a game, make true art worth seeing, playing. Don't try to "beat" this game. Yes aim to finish it. But enjoy your time with this masterpiece.
