This game has heart. It's oozing with style wherever you go in the game. Every piece of art you see, all the voice acting, the animations, the MUSIC. It's so full of charm and whimsy. I can recommend the game just on this alone. However, the gameplay does leave some things to be desired. All of the enemies in the game (of which the variety is small) attack on a beat in each song of the area you're in. However when there's multiple enemies attacking at a time it can be a little confusing on when to dodge. As well as the 2 player characters not being forced to attack on beat, unlike a game like Hi Fi rush. However I don't think it takes away from the game that much. As the rest of the game makes up for the admittedly ok combat system. I'd still say it's worth your time in a playthrough. Extremely solid 7-8/10 game

All around enjoyable. Good music, amped me up for the boss fights. The game is dripping with style and character. It has heart.
Gameplay wise felt like it needed to cook a bit more. Cool ideas of fusing action hack and slash with rhythm stuff but it didnt feel quite there. Also way too easy, not a fan of being forced to play the same fight several times to unlock a new difficulty. The overall art style was great but the actual level design was kind of boring. Felt like I was fighting the camera half the time and not able to see enemies off screen.
All around though, I kind of enjoyed it for the music and vibe, even though the story got a bit corny towards the end. It is clear it was a labor of love. The lackluster gameplay didn't outstay its welcome long enough or feel bad enough that I couldn't enjoy the rest of it.

It cares deeply for it's world, characters, music and aesthetics, but suffers from a lack of polish and bugs.
Wait for a sale.

really fun rhythm game, it would be also a perfect for coop game as well but the camera angle is terrible since they intend on mind for single player only so the camera drag is really annoying but if you can deal with it then the game is perfectly good for co-op
some of my biggest issue is that unlockable and fully upgrade required you to be straight A on all the boss or even S, some boss has questionable parry mechanic that either you needed to hit after the shot went through the hitbox, this game will be more better is it benefit from NG+ that you can fully explore which is too bad you can only doing it on final boss.
The artstyle is gorgeous and the OST is straight banger although some have difficult beat for dodging.

While the music and art were utterly gorgeous the combat mechanics are lacking and I really only enjoyed the first boss, most bosses follow a avoid damage for large stretch then deal damage for a short window mentality that gets draining not to mention the lead up to the bosses is always tedious.
The fact that you aren't playing on rhythm really throws me off for what's supposed to be a rhythm game.

This game is a work of art: an unpolished, janky, and slightly buggy experience that overcomes its flaws with a comedic story and one of the best soundtracks to ever exist. A must buy when on sale.

If you want to play for the story and world, this game is probably a good choice. If you want to play for the rhythm/gameplay aspect, don't. It's one of the worst gameplay experiences I've had in a long time.

I'm not really that far in, but the one thing I will say is they managed to nail everything except gameplay, which is really really strange.
I like the setting, I like the two MC's, the jokes so far have been kind of funny, the artstyle is awesome (It's like Psychonauts meets De Blob), the city is cool, but the gameplay man... The gameplay...
It's like it was made by people who've never played a game.
The rhythm element barely exists, and the boss fights I've done so far are just strangely tedious and— In a word— unresponsive.
Things just kinda happen, and it doesn't feel like you caused anything.
The first boss fight with DJ Subatomic has a great ost and cool visual ideas, but you're just gathering particles and waiting to shoot. It's so lame, I really don't understand who came up with this. There are SO many games with boss fights to just straight up copy from if you're not sure what to do. And the Sayu "boss fight", just... no...
Yeah, I really hope they address gameplay issues in NSR2 because whereas I wish I could like this game, I cant because of the "game" part of the game. A real shame.
