Absolutely terrible port, game stutters constantly despite my specs being slightly higher than the recommended ones (5700x3D & RX 6800). The frame time graph has constant micro-stutters and and the game still uses Denuvo 2 years after release and requires an internet connection for a completely single player game. Fantastic reminder to myself to not bother purchasing anything EA touches.

After finally beating the game on Impossible and doing everything I can, I would highly, highly recommend this game to anyone who loves the survival horror genre and sci-fi horror.

After putting off from beating the Secret ending and doing the Plasma cutter only on Hardcore... its nice to be in the shoes of Issac clarke once again. Though its a shame from what I've heard regarding the Remaking reaching to Dead Space 2. But I will be hopeful and continue to support the game and its Devs through and through.. as its been a part of my childhood growing up when I first saw the Iconic logo at a Cyber Cafe I frequented when young.

Dead Space 1 is considered one of the best survival horror games of 2008. When EA announced the remake of Dead Space 1, fans feared it would be yet another soulless cash grab. Fortunately, after I spent 14 hours playing this game, I guarantee this is how survival horror games should be done. This game gave me a flashback to why I was scared of aliens as a kid.
The game received a nomination for Best Audio Design at The Game Awards 2023. You might wonder why audio matters so much, but sound design plays a crucial role in horror. The creak of pipes, the groan of metal under tension, and screeches off in the distance all remind you that you're never quite alone. The remake intelligently uses sound to make players paranoid and create moments where the silence is more horrifying than action.
The game is set in 2508 when there was a lot of advanced technology. You play as Isaac Clarke, a space engineer sent with his team on a mission to repair the USG Ishimura, a massive mining ship orbiting the planet Aegis VII where his wife Nicole works and he hasn't seen her for a month. However, their ship crash lands on the Ishimura, and later find that everything inside is abandoned and broken. The Ishimura ship crew is missing and there are dangerous creatures called Necromorphs everywhere. Immediately one of your team members is killed, your shuttle is destroyed, and your remaining crewmates are separated, forcing you to find an escape from the Ishimura. Through your journey to escape, you will slowly know the cause of all this chaos and hallucination on this ship when I found out how these creatures are made it surprised me. Suddenly, all the unreasonable things I encountered in the first half of these games came to make sense. The ending is quite shocking and well-executed.
The core gameplay mechanic revolves around strategic dismemberment that requires players to cut off Necromorph limbs rather than simply shooting them in the head. Players have access to a variety of weapons to fight specific enemies. For example, a flamethrower gun is effective against small Necromorphs that are hard to shoot with a normal gun. This system requires you to choose the right gun at the right time. Additionally, the seamless world design eliminates loading screens, which will keep you in tension during your exploration around USG Ishimura. It causes you to immerse in the atmosphere of the game and feel like you are in that creepy ship.
Although the game is great in many aspects but isn't perfect, One of the weaker points is the facial expressions and character emotions, which at times feel a bit stiff and lifeless. Sometimes character animations during dialogue sequences don’t always match the intensity of the situation. It made key moments feel not as immersive and engaging as they should be.
I must say it's worth every penny spent by anyone looking to purchase this game. The improved visuals and sound design make every moment aboard the USG Ishimura a nerve-wracking nightmare. I would rate this game 4/5 because minor issues like stiff facial animations prevent it from being perfect. But this remake is still a must-play for survival horror fans.

Amazing remake of an already incredible survival horror game. In Dead Space you play as a maintenance worker named Issac - through a series of events you become stranded while investigating communication issues with another ship and discover the majority of the vessel has been overrun with supernatural monster called necromophs.
The game is played from a 3rd person over the shoulder perspective, similar to Resident Evil 4. There is a feeling of weight and deliberate movement with Issac, especially when using a controller, which makes the game feel "heavy" in a good way - there are no tank controls here. You will spend most of your time attempting to repair the ship, save survivors, find your wife, and escape which is a surprisingly compelling narrative despite the simplicity.
The devs have given the player plenty of tools to tackle the varied enemies; you have many "weapons" at your disposal, which are repurposed mining equipment such as a saw blade or plasma cutter. Nice attention to detail and world building. I think the necromorphs are bullet-spongey on normal difficulty althought the limb cutting mechanism never gets old.
There are a few issues with this game such as obtuse objectives and enemy encounters where the game doesn't do a good job explaining to the player how to deal with a threat, but online guides solve this issue in 2025.
Overall this is an awesome AAA survival horror game. I feel like we don't see these too often outside of Resident Evil but hopefully EA decides to greenlight a DS4 or DS2 remake.

This is one of the best remakes of one of the best horror games of all time. A remake of the sequel was basically confirmed/teased in the game itself but it has since been cancelled because this game didnt make enough money or whatever. Incredible game but i cannot recommend supporting EA in any way.

Such a brilliant remake. Top notch. The graphics just look so damn astonishing, the ambience is phenomenal and the physics engine and gameplay are so well-designed as well.. It enhances the original in almost every way possible.
This game really manages to immerse the player, as you feel like you’re a part of the game and the moment. What helps in this regard as well is the fact that there’s no HUD in the entire game. Every detail needed to know is shown through in-game holographics, just like the map, inventory and so on. This forces the player to always be aware of his surroundings, as he can still get attacked after opening the holographics, as the necromorphs always find a way to appear out of nowhere no matter where you are and how safe you feel. This forces you to always stay focused and makes you even more immersed into the gameplay, which is a huge plus.
The variety of weapons from the Plasma Cutter you receive early on in the game from the Pulse Rifle to the Flamethrower to the Line Gun combined with the ability of tossing objects at enemies with the help of Kinesis as well as with the possiblity to slow them down with Statis allows you to kill the enemies in different ways and it's surely fun as hell. Even when they’re dead you can still use the Kinesis to dismember them and throw their body parts around. It’s not like they’re untouchable and disappear after a couple of seconds. I haven’t seen this in any game before. That’s just so innovative.
The USG Ishimura is just so well designed with an extremely high level of attention to detail and there’s a lot to explore with many items laying around and many rooms you can access later on after reaching a certain level of security clearance. This gives you a reason to explore the entire spaceship rather than just blindly following the objectives without paying attention to the rest. The found items can be sold at several stores found throughout the station. You can choose between purchasing a higher level of your extraordinarily beautifully-designed suit or power nodes you can spend for upgrades for your weapons at benches you can find at certain places at the Ishimura. The Zero-G areas makes moving around harder as well with the player being forced to ascend and descend in those zones in addition to the hampered capability to walk around. The already strong environmental details are enhanced by very moody lighting, while some corners around can be totally dark forcing you to be aware of enemies possibily lurking around.
It can certainly be said that for fans of the science fiction, action-adventure and horror genre it’s a must to give this game a shot. This remake is just that good. I really hope we will get one of DS2 and DS3 as well.

Its been over a year, and this game still has Denuvo anti-consumer malware implemented. There are only pros to removing that parasitic cancer from the industry for good. Make good games, and stop infecting them with a badly coded unoptimized DRM that absolutely plummets performance and requires an internet connection. Absolutely unacceptable.

I'm not a graphics guy but this is clean, crisp and smooth.
No performance issues, no crashes or bugs.
Game-play is crazy good and polished, basically everything that the OG Dead space had, the remake does better.
Its Dead space but with a massive zenkai boost.
You really, really have to look hard find something that the original does better than the remake.
If you're a fan of classic si-fi horror games that have the event horizon, 40k vibes, then look no further.
This game is so good and has such replay ability that I'm on my 3rd play trough.

beautiful remake - insane that it has to be connected to the internet. What's the point of buying this game for the steam deck if I can't play it on a plane or the toilet or under the covers? Disgusting.
